DRIVE TRAIN ALIGNMENT PROCEDURE NOTES
8 7 4 3
CONSULT SOLAR TPIM 1010 FOR COMPLETE DRIVE TRAIN ALIGNMENT PROCEDURE.
THIS ALIGNMENT PROCEDURE ASSUMES THAT NO SOFT FOOT OR SHORT FOOT CONDITION EXISTS ON ANY OF THE MACHINES AND THE BASE(S)
H HAVE BEEN QUALIFIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH SOLAR QUALITY ASSURANCE PROCEDURES.
38.328" H
(973.53)
COLD ALIGNMENT: 32.293" HSG TO HSG
(820.24)
ALL MEMBERS NEED 12-24 HOURS TO COOL FROM OPERATING TEMPERATURE. THE OIL TANK HEATER MUST BE TURNED OFF DURING EQUIPMENT
HSG TO HSG
ALIGNMENT.
SHIPPING BRACES: See Detail A
REMOVE RED SHIPPING BRACES BEFORE STARTING ALIGNMENT. See Detail A
MANIFOLDS/DUCTING:
VERIFY THAT ALL MANIFOLDS ABOVE TANK LUBE OIL LEVEL (I.E. LUBE OIL, COMPRESSOR SUCTION AND DISCHARGE, ETC..) ARE LOOSENED
TO ALLOW FOR FREE MOVEMENT OF THE MACHINES. REMOVE SUCTION AND DISCHARGE HEADERS.
PAD CLEANLINESS: M2 M1 TURBINE
VERIFY THAT THE SHIMMABLE EQUIPMENT PADS ARE CLEAN AND FREE OF OIL, GREASE AND DEBRIS.
OIL TANK:
IT IS PREFERABLE TO HAVE OIL TANK FILLED TO ITS OPERATING LEVEL AT THIS TIME.

G TIEDOWN BOLTS: G
VERIFY THAT ALL TIEDOWN BOLTS ARE LUBRICATED WITH ANTI-SEIZE LUBRICANT.
BEARING PRE-LUBRICATION: 33.810"
(858.77)
IT IS RECOMMENDED TO PRELUBE THE MACHINERY PRIOR TO ROTATION TO PREVENT POSSIBLE BEARING DAMAGE. 32.485"
DBSE
RUNNING POSITION THRUSTS: (825.12)
THE PURPOSE OF "RUNNING POSITION THRUSTS" IS TO PLACE THE ROTORS OF ALL THE MACHINES IN THEIR OPERATING THRUST POSITION DBSE
AND TO SET THE PROPER DISTANCE.
SETTING AXIAL DISTANCE BETWEEN MACHINES:
FIGURE II FIGURE I
ONCE THE MACHINERY IS IN ITS RUNNING THRUST POSITION, USE THE PACKAGE'S JACKING BOLTS TO MOVE THE MACHINE AXIALLY AS
REQUIRED TO ACHIEVE THE PROPER FACE TO FACE (CALCULATED FLANGE TO FLANGE) DISTANCE BETWEEN MACHINES. SEE DETAIL A. (FOR
DRY COUPLINGS, THE ASSEMBLY PARTS LIST (APL) DRAWING SHOULD BE CONSULTED). COUPLING ASSY: 233601-1502 COUPLING ASSY: 233601-700
INTERCONNECT: 233600-1501 INTERCONNECT: 233600-702
VERIFY DISTANCE:
USE AN INSIDE MICROMETER TO VERIFY DISTANCE TOP AND BOTTOM AND SIDES OF FLANGES. AVERAGE THE READINGS. THIS AVERAGE MUST
BE THE CALCULATED FLANGE TO FLANGE IN DETAIL A. HUBS MUST BE IN THEIR NEUTRAL POSITIONS. THE DRY HUBS ARE IN THE NEUTRAL
POSITION WHEN ALL LOCK DOWN SCREWS (YELLOW AND RED RESPECTIVELY) ARE LOOSE.
F F
NEAR FOOT/FAR FOOT:
NEAR FOOT IS FOOT OR PAD CLOSEST TO THE MACHINES SHAFT END. FAR FOOT IS FOOT OR PAD FARTHEST AWAY FROM MACHINES SHAFT END.
FIXED REFERENCE POINT:
THE GEARBOX IS THE FIXED REFERENCE POINT AND IS DENOTED BY A . NORMALLY IT IS NOT TO BE SHIMMED, OR MOVED. BEGIN
ALIGNING FROM FIXED MACHINE AND PROCEED OUTWARD.
MACHINE ROTATION:
ROTATE MACHINERY IN THE SAME DIRECTION OF NORMAL ROTATION.
POWER TURBINE SHAFT LEVELING TOOL:
INSTALL THE POWER TURBINE LEVELING TOOL TO THE POWER TURBINE HOUSING USING THE TOP THREE BOLT HOLES OF THE POWER TURBINE
HOUSING. VERIFY LEVELING TOOL IS FREE TO MOVE UP AND DOWN ITS GUIDE WITHOUT BINDING. TURN HAND KNOB ON LEVELING TOOL UNTIL
ROLLERS OF TOOL COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE POWER TURBINE SHAFT. ONCE ROLLERS ARE IN CONTACT WITH SHAFT CONTINUE TURNING
HAND KNOB AN ADDITIONAL 1-1/2 TURNS. THIS ACTION WILL LOWER THE POWER TURBINE SHAFT BY .008" (.203) TO .013" (.330) AND
POSITION THE SHAFT AGAINST THE BOTTOM OF BOTH NUMBER 4 AND NUMBER 5 BEARING PADS. DO NOT EXCEED 1-1/2 TURNS ON THE TOOL.
SWEEP ALIGNMENT:
E WITH THE BT AND FT READING 0.0 IN THE 12 O'CLOCK POSITION. SLOWLY ROTATE THE ALIGNMENT TOOL ONE COMPLETE ROTATION AND E
RECORD THE FOLLOWING DIAL INDICATOR READINGS: FL, FR, FB, BL, BR, BB.
LATERAL ALIGNMENT ADJUSTMENT:
DO NOT MOVE THE FIXED REFERENCE POINT DENOTED BY A .
FROM THE FL, FR, FB, BL AND BR READINGS ADJUST THE ENGINE LATERALLY USING THE NEAR FEET AND FAR FEET JACKING BOLTS UNTIL
FACE AND BORE VALUES IN TABLE I ARE OBTAINED.
IF THERE IS NO LATERAL OFFSET NOTED FOR EITHER MACHINE UNDER ALIGNMENT. RESWEEP ALIGNMENT AND VERIFY FL=FR # .001. BL=BR

REVERIFY AXIAL DISTANCE.
WHEN SATISFIED. FULLY RETRACT JACKING BOLTS.
RECHECK LATERAL ALIGNMENT.
VERTICAL SHIM ADJUSTMENT:
SHIM CARE:
IF VERTICAL SHIMMING IS NECESSARY, USE CLEAN SHIMS. SHIMS WHICH ARE RUSTED, OILY OR DEFORMED SHOULD NOT BE USED. ONCE
D THE LATERAL ADJUSTMENT IS SATISFIED. PERFORM A SWEEP AND RECORD BB AND FB. D
NEAR FOOT/FAR FOOT SHIM ADJUSTMENT:
FROM THE BB AND FB READINGS RECORDED IN THE STEP ABOVE: ADD OR REMOVE SHIMS FROM THE NEAR FEET AND FAR FEET USING THE
METHOD DESCRIBED BELOW.
FINAL ALIGNMENT VERIFICATION:
WHEN ALL ALIGNMENT READINGS ARE WITHIN THE ALLOWABLE LIMITS, MONITOR THE ALIGNMENT READINGS AS THE FOLLOWING IS BEING
COMPLETED.
ALL MANIFOLDS ARE TIGHTENED IN PLACE.
ALL TIE-DOWN BOLTS ARE TORQUED IN A "STAR" PATTERN TO THEIR SPECIFIED VALUE. CALCULATED
FLANGE TO FLANGE
THE FLEXIBLE INLET AND EXHAUST DUCT ARE TIGHTENED IN PLACE.
SLEX DISC PACKS IN
ALL JACKING BOLTS ARE FULLY RETRACTED. NEUTRAL CONDITION
ALL COMPRESSOR SUCTION AND DISCHARGE MANIFOLDS ARE IN PLACE.
SECOND GAP PRE-STRETCH
THE OIL TANK IS FILLED TO ITS OPERATING LEVEL. SHIM TO AQUIRE
SHIM IF SPACER
THE OIL HEATERS ARE TURNED ON AND THE OIL TEMPERATURE HAS STABILIZED AT OR ABOVE THE START INHIBIT TEMPERATURE FOR 8 REQUIRED ACTUAL SIM (COLD)
C HOURS. FROM APL C
