DISTRIBUTION BUS 2 AND ESSENTIAL DISTRUBUTION BUS
COMPONENTS INSTEAD OF ALT1 BECAUSE ALT 2
OPERATES AT A HIGHER VOLTAGE
BATTERY 1
BATTERY 1 IS AN AVIATION – GRADE , 12-CELL LEAD-ACID
, 24 VOLT,10 – AMP/HOUR BATTERY MOUNTED ON THE
RIGHT FIREWALL
BATTER 1 POWER DISTRIBUTION
BAT1 CAN SUPPLY TEMPORARY POER TO THE ENTIRE
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . BAT 1 IS NORMALLY CHARGED BY
ALT 1 THROUGH MAIN DISTRUBUTION BUS 1 . BATTERY 1
IS ALSO THE ONLY BATTERY AVAILABLE FOR THE ENGINE
STARTING
BATTERY 2
BATTTERY 2 IS COMPOSED OF TWO 12- VOLT , 7
AMP/HOUR , SEALED . LEAD –ACID BATTERIES
CONNECTED IN SERIES TO PROVIDE 24 VOLTS .BATTERY 2
IS LOCATED IN A VENTED , ACID RESISTANT CONTAINER
MOUNTED BEHIND THE AFT CABIN BULKHEAD.

BATTERY 2
WILL DIRECTLY SUPPLY 24 VOLTS OF POWER TO THE
ESSENTIAL DISTRUBUTION BUS AND ITS ASSICIATED
COMPONENTS . BAT 2 PROVIDES ATLEAST 30 MINUTES
OF POWER TO COMPONENTS LOCATED ON THE
ESSENTIAL DISTRIBUTION BUS IF NEEDED DURING AN
EMERGENCY . ISOLATION DIODES PREVENT BAT2 FROM
POWERING MAIN BUS 1 AND 2.
DURING PREFLIGHT CORRECT OPREATION OF THE
ISLATION DIODES CAN BE VERIFIED BY SWITCHING “ON”
BAT 2 AND VERIFYING THAT THE FLAP POSITION LIGHT IS
OUT . THE FLAP POSITION LIGHT SHOULD REMAIN OFF (
SIGNIFYING THE LACK OF POWER ) BEACAUSE THE FLAP
CIRCUIT BREAKER IS LOCATED ON MAIN DISTRIBUTION
BUS 2
MASTER CONTROL UNIT
THE MASTER CONTROL UNIT (MCU) IS LOCATED ON THE
LEFT FIREWALL . THE EXTERNAL POWER RECEPTACLE
CONNECTS DIRECLY INTO THE MCU
MASTER CONTROL UNIT
MCU
THE MCU CONTAINS ALL ISOLATION DIODES AND THE
THREE MAIN DISTRIBUTION BUSES . THE MCU CONTROL
ALT1 , ALT2 , STARTER , LANDING LIGHT ,EXTERNAL
POWER AND POWER GENERATION FUNCTION .IN
ADDITION TO ALT1 AND ALT2 VOLTAGE REGULATION ,
THE MCU ALSO PROVIDES EXTERNAL POWER REVERSE
POLARITY PROTECTION , ALTERNATOR OVER-VOLTAGE
PROTECTION ,AS WELL AS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM HEALTH
ANNUCIATION TO THE CIRRUS PERSPECTIVE AVIONICS
SYSTEM
MCU ANNUNCIATION
THE MCU PROVIDES ELECTRICAL SYSTEM HEALTH LOGIC
AND ANNUCIATION FOR THE PFD TO ALERT THE PILOT OF
AN ABNORMALITY IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.
1- ALT 1 CAUTION – SIGNIFIES ALTERNATOR 1 OUT IS
LOW , INDICATIVE OF AN ALTERNATOR FAILURE
2- ALT 2 CAUTION – SIGNIFIES ALTERNATOR 2 OUTPUT
IS LOW, INDICATIVE OF ALTERNATOR
3- BATT 1 CAUTION – SIGNIFIES A BATTERY 1
DISCHARGE. A DISCHARGE OF BATTERY 1 WHILE ALT
1 IS FUNCTIONING NORMALLY , IS INDICATION
FAILURE WITHIN THE MCU
4- M BUS 1 CAUTION – SIGNIFIES MAIN BUS 1
VOLTAGE IS LOW , LOW INDICATIVE OF AN ALT 1
FAILURE
5- M BUS 2 CAUTION – SIGNIFIFIES THAT MAIN BUS 2
VOLTAGE IS LOW , INDICATIVE OF A DUAL ALT 1 AND
ALT 2 FAILURE
6- M BUS 1 WARNING – SIGNIFIES THAT MAIN BUS 1
VOLTAGE IS EXCESSIVE , INDICATES AN
ALTERNATOR 1 VOLTAGE IS EXCESSIVE , INDICATES
AN ALTERNATOR 1 VOLTAGE FAILURE
7- M BUS 2 WARNING – SIGNIFIES MAIN BUS 2
VOLTAGE IS EXCESSIVE . INDICATES AN
ALTERNATOR VOLTAGE REGULATOR FAILURE
8- ESS BUS WARNING – SIGNIFIES ESSENTIAL BUS
VOLTAGE IS EITHER HIGH ( VOLTAGE REGULATOR
FAILURE ) OR LOW ( DUAL ALTERNATOR FAILURE )
ISOLATION DIODES
ISOLATION DIODES ALLOW FOR ELECTRIC CURRENT TO
FLOW IN THE DIRECTION OF THE ARROW , BUT NOT IN
THE OTHER DIRECTION . ISOLATION DIODES CAN BE
THOUGHT OF AS AN ELECTRIC “ ONE WAY STREET “ FOR
THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . ELECTRICITY THAT FLOWS
THROUGH AN ISOLATION DIODE WILL LOSE ABOUT ½ OF
A VOLT
ISOLATION DIODES WILL ALLOW ALT 1 POWER TO FLOW
FROM MAIN DISTRIBUTION BUS 1 TO MAIN
DISTRIBUTION BUS 2 AND THE ESSENTIAL BUS AS
INDICATED BY THE GREEN ARROWS
ISOLATION DIODES PREVENT BAT2 FROM POWERING
MAIN DISTRIBUTION BUS 1 AND 2 .
THIS DESIGN CONSEVES BAT 2 POWER USAGE BY
LIMITING THE COMPONENTS BAT 2 CAN POWER TO THE
ESSENTAIL DISTRIBUTUION BUS . CORRECT ISOLATION
DIODE OPERATION SHOULD BE CHECKE DURING EVERY
PREFLIGHT BY SWITCHING BAT 2 ON AND VERIFYING
THAT THE FLAP POSITION LIGHT ILLUMINATES , THIS
WOULD INDICATE THAT AN ISOLATION DIODE HAS
MALFUNCTIONED AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM MAY
NOT BEHAVE AS INTENDED.
ISOLATION DIOES POWER DISTRIBUTIOB
ISOLATION DIODES PREVENT AL 2 FROM POWERING THE
MAIN DISTRIBUTION BUS 1 AND ITS ASSOCIATE
COMPONENTS . ANOTHER ISOLATION DIODE ALLOWED
ALT 2 CURRENT TO FLOW FROM MAIN DISTRIBUTION
BUS 2 TO THE ESSENTIAL DISTRIBUTION BUS
CIRCUIT BRAEKER PANEL
INDIVIDUAL ELECRTICAL CIRCUITS ARE PROTECTED BY
RESETABLE CIRCIUT BRAEKERS MOUNTED ON THE
CIRCIUT BRAEKER PANEL LOCATED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF
THE CENTER CONSOLE. ELECTRICAL POWER TO
INDIVIDUAL COMPONENTS MAYBE TURNED OFF TO
SHED ELECTRICAL LOADS OR TO SIMULATE FAILURES BY
PULLING INDIVIDUAL CIRCUIT BRAEKERS. ALTERNATING
GREY COLLARS AND LABELS ALLOW FOR EASIER
RECOGNITION OF INDIVIDUAL CIRCUIT BRAEKERS.
REMEMBER THAT IF A CIRCUIT BREAKE “ OPEN “ TO
ONLY RESET IT
GROUND POWER RECEPTABLE
THE EXTERNAL POWER RECEPTACLE IS INTEGRATED INTO
THE MCU . THE RECEPTACLE IS LOCATED JUST AFT OF
THE ENGINE COWLING ON THE LEFT OF THE PLANE. THE
RECEPTACLE ALLOW THE USE OF AN EXTERNAL POWER
FOR COLD WEATHER STARTING AND MAINTENANCE
PROCEDURE REQUIRING RELIABLE POWER FOR AN
EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME.
THE BAT 1 SWITCH MUST BE ON FOR EXTERNAL POWER
TO FEED THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. IF BAT 1 IS
COMPLETELY DRAINED THE GROUND POWER UNIT WILL
NOT BE ABLE TO POWER THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. IF
BATTERY 1 IS DEPLETED IT SHOULD BE REMOVED AND
CHARGED WITH AN APPROPRIATE BATTERY CHARGER.
WHEN CONNECTING TO THE EXTERNAL POWER
RECEPTACLE A 28 VIOLT GROUND POWER UNIT SHOULD
BE USED
GROUND POWER RECEPTABLE
THE GROUND POWER UNIT CAN SUPPLY POWER TO THE
ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. DURING GROUND POWER
OPERATIONS BAT 1 WILL INDICATE A DISCHARGE WHILE
ALL THREE BUSES SHOULD DISPLAY APPROXIMATELY 28
VOLTS, VERIFYING NORMAL GROUND POWER
OPERATION
