Chapter 3

METHOD

This chapter contains the different parts of the research. The design, research

subject, the procedure that were used in gathering the necessary data for the study,

and the statistical treatment.

Research Design

The researchers used qualitative non-experimental design using correlational

techniques for this study, which involved gathering of data //////////through a

researcher-made questionnaire which related to the study conducted.

The qualitative non-experimental design using correlational techniques in

which the researcher is a passive agent, who observes, measures and describes a

phenomenon as it occurs or exists; explores the relationship between variables of

interest without any active intervention manipulation of the independent variable by

the researcher. (Dr. Hanan A. Ezzat, 2008)

Research Subject

This study conducted at Provincial Capitol of Davao del Norte and focused on

the impact of employee recognition based on workers performance.

The respondent of this study are the employee who serves one year or more in

Provincial Capitol Davao del Norte specifically in the Government Center located in

Mankilam, Tagum City. Table 1 shows the distribution of respondents out of the total

population of the said government building.

Research Instrument

In this study the researchers made questionnaire was used as a tool in

gathering data. The respondents were instructed to choose a number that best describe

their choices for each specific question. The questionnaire consists of questions

pertaining to respondent profile that is directly filled out the extent of Employee

Recognition on Workers Performance of Davao del Norte Provincial Capitol

employees.

To determine the level of Employee Recognition on Workers performance of

the employees of Davao del Norte Provincial Capitol the following rating scale were

used.

Range of Means Description Interpretation

4.3-5.0 Very High This means that employee recognition

is very much practiced

3.5-4.2 High This means that employee recognition

is much practiced

2.7-3.4 Moderate This means that employee recognition

is moderately practiced

1.9-2.6 Low This means that employee recognition

is rarely practiced

1.0-1.8 Very Low This means that employee recognition

is not practiced

To determine the level of Workers Performance of the workers of Davao del

Norte Provincial Capitol the following rating are used.

4.3-5.0 Very High This means that workers performance

is very much evident

3.5-4.2 High This means that workers performance

is much evident

2.7-3.4 Medium This means that workers performance

is sometimes evident

1.9-2.6 Low This means that workers performance

is seldom evident

1.0-1.8 Very Low This means that workers performance

is not evident

Data Gathering Procedure

The researcher followed the following steps in gathering and retrieving of the

questionnaires.

First, researcher created and evaluated questionnaire and then presented to adviser for

checking purposes. After checking, this was present to the panel members for

validation. After the validation, we check the corrections and then produced the final

copy of the questionnaire. Then the researchers write a letter of request to conduct a

study. After gradated the permission to conduct a study, the researcher distributed the

questionnaire to the selected respondents, all the questionnaire were collected

immediately upon completion and data were tallied for statistical interpretation.

Statistical Treatment of Data

The following statistical tools were used for analysing gathered data.

Average Weighted Mean. This used to measure the level of employee

recognition and the level of employee performance among employees of Davao del

Norte Provincial Capitol.

Pearson-r. This used to determine the relationship between employee

recognition on employee performance of Davao del Norte Provincial Capitol

employees.

Linear Regression Analysis. This used to determine the relationship between a

dependent variable and the independent variable.
