Re: NTSB Aviation Accident Preliminary Report No. ERA18FA231
Dear Ms. Silbaugh:
‘The undersigned is counsel to Air Star Flight Support, Inc., the fixed based operator and
maintenance facility operating on the Swainsboro Airport. Air Star Flight Support employees
one or more mechanics who perform maintenance on aircraft on the airport.
Reference is made to National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Aviation Accident
Preliminary Report No. ERAISFA231 (hereinafter “the Report”). In the fifth sentence in the
third paragraph of the Report, the following language appears:
The parachute rigger saw the mechanic and the pilot working on the airplane, and
(sie) later told the parachute rigger that they decided to use “fuel cell tape” over
the fuel filler port.
There is a missing word after the word “and” and before “later.” The news media has been
reporting, incorrectly, that this statement is attributed to the mechanic when that is untrue. To be
clear, a typographical error or scrivener’s error in the report has led the news media to reach the
incorrect conclusion that this statement is attributed to the mechanic.
Request is made that the NTSB revise the fifth sentence in the third paragraph of its
Report and in doing so, declare that there by no attribution to the mechanic with regard to the
content of the fifth sentence of the third paragraph of the report. On behalf of Air Star FlightKathleen Silbaugh
General Counsel,
NTSB
