Jakarta-Palembang 2018 is the

Best Asian Games Ever?

Asian Games 2018 Jakarta-Palembang

has already over. But euphoria of the tournament
still exists. Many international media reported
Indonesia’s success as the host of 2018 Asian
Games. To be said as the best “Games” ever, here
are some reasons why Jakarta-Palembang 2018 is
worthy labeled as the best ever.

As we know, Indonesia got a huge

success in hosting the 18th Asian Games. Starting
from the opening ceremony, International public
seems to be stunned by outstanding various
performances and excitement that are displayed.
A spectacular pyrotechnic show, including a
simulated volcanic eruption, lit up the Jakarta
skyline as Indonesia rolled out the red carpet for
the continent’s elite athletes in the opening
ceremony for the 18th Asian Games. Other
spectacular thing is that the North and South
Korean athletes marching together under a
common flag featuring a map of the divided
peninsula for the first time in Asian Games
history. Indonesia seems to answering public
doubts, which underestimated their capabilities of
hosting ‘the second biggest sports event’ in the
world. That’s certainly reasonable because
Indonesia only had 3 years to prepare the Asian
Games after Vietnam pulled out for financial
reasons.

Besides the spectacular opening

ceremony, Indonesia is also considered successful
in preparing various facilities and venues within 3
years. Not only that, the volunteers who
numbered around 30.000, consisting of young
people also got the spotlight. The friendliness and
enthusiasm of local people during the Games also
became an added value. Until it closed on
September 2, many international media reported
positive reviews of Indonesia. As it’s written in
South China Morning Post, “With hosts Indonesia
putting on a world-class show – yes, there were
some logistical and communication issues but
nothing you will not find at any Olympics or
major games – the Asian Games has truly
emerged as the second greatest multisport event
in the world. Not only in terms of number of
participants but also in the quality of athletes and
organisational ability”, as written in it.

Even because of all the success and

praises, now Indonesia is planning to bid for the
2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the
country's president Joko Widodo has announced.
“After the excellent experience of the Asian
Games we now believe we can host the very
biggest sporting event," Widodo said.
International Olympic Committee (IOC)
president Bach welcomed the Indonesian
candidacy, adding that the Asian Games provided
a "strong foundation" for the country's 2032 bid.
"Because with this Asian Games, with this great
success, Indonesia has shown that they have all
the ingredients to hold the Olympics
successfully," said Bach. By looking at those
statements, it is not impossible that Indonesia
could truly become the host of Olympic and
Paralympic Games.

There are indeed still many deficiencies

contained in the implementation of Asian Games
2018 Jakarta-Palembang. But, the many reasons
above confirm that Jakarta-Palembang 2018 is
worthy labeled as the best Asian Games ever
held.
