1. What do you understand by social movements? Why do movements emerge? Explain
the relationship between social movements and structural changes.
2. The accounts of the violent Naxalbari movement and non-violent Bhoodan-Gramdan
movement demonstrate that both have failed in achieving their initial goal. Comment on
the statement with reference to dynamics of both the movements.
3. While in the post-independence period, women’s mobilization was done mainly
through organizations of political parties, the post-emergency period witnessed a certain
amount of autonomy of women’s movement with reference to political parties.
Comment on the statement taking into consideration the role of civil society in women’s
movement.
4. While the problem of student indiscipline’ in India has received much attention in
recent years, the policy makers have probably exaggerated its seriousness. Comment on
the statement with reference to the history of student’s movement in independent India
and connect this with the contemporary situation.
5. Comment on the nature of ‘Ecology movements’ in India. Support your answer with at
least two important environmental social movements.
6. Law making remains, more or less, the exclusive prerogative of a small cross-section of
elites, that affects the quality of law as well as its social communication, diffusion,
acceptance and effectivity. Comment on ‘law as an instrument of social change in
contemporary India’.

(SECTION – A) (04X15)
Answer any four:-
1. H and his wife W are joint owners of an immovable property. H and W decided that they
will execute a sale deed in favour of S who had offered them Rs. Ten lakh for the
property. H and W executed a sale deed in favour of S and accepted Rs. 25, 000/- as
token money. Two days after execution of sale deed, H got another offer from Z who
promised to pay Rs. Two lakh more for the property. H and W discussed the matter and
decided to return Rs. 25,000/- to S repudiating the contract with S.
What offence, if any, has been committed by H and W? Discuss the law in detail.
2. X and Y who are brothers, were going to their farm and saw Z, accompanied by A and B,
returning to his village. X had a longstanding dispute with Z of which Y was also aware.
When X and Y crossed Z, X made a derogatory remark against Z to which A, B and Z
objected. Upon this, X asked Y to teach them a lesson. Y whisked out his revolver and
shot B dead and also fired at A and Z. Both, however, were unhurt. X and Y were
subsequently apprehended. In this statement to the police, X said that he was not aware
that Y was carrying a revolver. However, in his statement Y said that X was aware of this
fact. Y was charged for murdering B and attempting on the life of A and Z.
The court is also in the process of framing a charge against X. Help the court in doing so.
Also discuss the law on the point in detail.
3. What are the elements of crime? Discuss in detail, two elements of crime that you
consider the most important.
4. With the help of decided cases, discuss the law on criminal attempts in India. What tests
are employed by the courts to determine that an attempt to commit an offence has been
made?
5. Discuss the defence of insanity under the IPC. Take help of leading cases.
6. Discuss the principle of constructive criminal liability under Section 34 of IPC. How is
this liability different from the liability under Section 149 of IPC?

B and also snatched the pamphlet from him. B sustained minor injuries for which A is
being tried. A took the plea of right of private defence against the offence of defamation.
Will he succeed? Give reasons.

1. In spite of more than six decades of planning in India, the country has not been able to
make a serious dent in the problems of poverty, unemployment and inequalities of
income. Discussing the holistic view of the causes of these problems, explain the
strategy to overcome them.
2. Explain the structure of capital market in India and discuss the various types of
financial institutions which are the sources of funds for the industrial sector in the
capital market.
3. Discuss the problem of profitability of commercial banks and explain how the reforms
in the financial sector helped solve these problems.
4. What are the various agreements undertaken under WTO? Discuss some of the points
of conflicts between developed and developing nations under WTO and also discuss
some of the likely benefits to India as a member of WTO.
5. ‘Economic reforms ensure the long term growth of the economy with a human face’.
Discuss the ongoing economic reforms post-1991 and also critically evaluate the
above statement.
6. What are the reasons for the industrial disputes in India? Discuss the structure and
forms of industrial disputes settlement machinery in the country.

(SECTION – A) (04X15)
1. The owner of deeds entrusts them to his agent, namely, Mr. Kumar, authorizing him to
pledge them for a certain sum. Mr. Kumar pledges them for a larger sum to a person
who takes them in good faith and without notice of the limit on the agents’ authority.
The owner of deeds wants to recover the deeds from the pledgee. Can he recover?
Argue on behalf of the owner and pledgee and decide as per the provisions of the Indian
Contract Act, 1872.
2. Mr. Kunal authorizes Mr. Agniraj to purchase goods on his credit, and holds him out to
C as his agent for that purpose. C supplied goods to Mr. Agniraj on Mr. Kunal’s credit,
after revocation by Mr. Kunal of the authority of Mr. Agniraj to act on his behalf,
having had no notice of such revocation, is Mr. Kunal is liable to C for the price of the
goods? Argue on behalf of Mr. Kunal, C and decide with the help of the provisions of
the Indian Contract Act, 1872.
3. Can an Advocate exercise the right of lien over the case papers entrusted to him by his
client? Furnish reasons in the light of case laws.
4. Explain the rights of an unpaid seller as per the provisions of the Sale of Goods Act,
1893.
5. Discuss the modes of the dissolution of a partnership firm under the Indian Partnership
Act, 1932.
6. Canara Bank sued the guarantor for the loan advanced to the Principal debtor for the
purchase of a vehicle on the ground of default of the principal debtor and obtained a
decree. The plea of the guarantor was that the decree cannot be executed against him
unless and until, the bank proceed against the principal debtor first to recover the loan.
Argue on behalf of the bank and decide by applying the provisions of the Indian
Contract Act, 1872.

7. Mr. Roy, an agent of Mr. Rajiv, purchases goods on behalf of his Principal at a price
exceeding his limit. Mr. Rajiv objects to the contract but disposes off some of the goods
as his own. How will you explain the above transaction in the light of the provisions of
the Indian Contract Act, 1872?

1. In view of the acute shortage of the newsprints, the Government of India issued directions
to the following effect:
a. The big newspaper shall be permitted to publish newspapers having not more than
12 pages and the small one shall be of 6 pages only.
b. The press shall not publish any new edition of the newspapers.
c. It shall cut down the advertisements to 50 percent.
d. The circulation of the newspaper shall not be beyond the State of publication.
e. In order to avoid exploitation of the workers, the Municipal Regulations provided
working hours for all establishments from 9:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M.
Discuss with the help of case law, the constitutional validity of the above directions.
2. Explain in detail, the Constitutional validity of any two classes of reservations for
admission to the educational institutions. Support your answer with the case law and give
your response thereto.
3. “The expression ‘personal liberty’ in Article 21 is of widest amplitude and it covers a
