Body Image and The Media

ENG 102

BODY IMAGE AND THE MEDIA 2

Introduction:

What effect does media have on body image towards the public? The images that

companies use for their advertisements have caused a negative response to the public. Most of

the campaigns are models that are well fit and have similar body structure and physique. By

doing this, many advertisements are stating that to be appealing to a person’s eye you must have

a certain body type, that’s not true. By doing this, females take into consideration that they must

do something to get that body structure. Ads that are being displayed and still females that still

have a similar body type. While some campaigns displaying women of different body structure,

often time this works but most of the times it does not. This can lead them to thinking about

extreme dieting which can lead to eating disorders.
