To assess whether the students possess the prior knowledge needed to successfully Prior Knowledge accomplish this unit, the students will be given a multiple choice quiz using Survey Quiz – Physics Monkey. The teacher will use the results of this quiz to determine what areas need concepts and terms greater or less emphasis during the lecture. This quiz will contain the questions in the previous quiz in addition new items introduced in the lecture. This will determine how successful the lecture was in Post-Lecture Quiz – imparting the needed information to the students. If there are significant holes in the Physics & math student’s knowledge, a think-pair-share will be implemented in addition to students concepts and terms sharing questions which are not resolved by the think-pair-share. The quiz will be given again to assess if this process was successful. If not, more time will be needed to scaffold the student’s understanding of the material. Lecture Guided By looking over each student’s Guided Notes, the teacher will be able to assess if the Notes on Newton’s students are ready to proceed to the lab portion of this unit. Have they created several Second Law Model plausible models? Were they able to answer all of the questions in the guided notes? If Creation & any of the questions gave students difficulty, then more scaffolding is likely necessary Scientific Method before proceeding to the lab section of this unit. By looking over the students Lab Notes and videos, the teacher will be able to assess Newton’s Second if the students are ready to create their table and plot of the Newton’s Second Law Law Lab Notes and models and data. If the students are having difficulty completing the lab, the teacher Data Collection may need to provide more time and scaffolding, but the teacher needs to assess any Videos deficiency in their instruction which may have led to these difficulties. This is a key assessment as it will show if the students have enough understanding of the material to produce the tables and plot of their models and the collected data. Table & Plot of Analysis of potential errors in the generation of their model & data plots is a key Newton’s Second aspect to higher level thinking. It is important that the students not become too Law Models and frustrated if their results did not come out exactly as expected and the ability to figure Data out the potential sources of any problems is a key aspect to critical thinking and science. This may be the most important summative assessment of the unit. Are the students Mind Map of able to synthesize all they have accomplished and create a coherent mind map Newton’s Second summarizing what they have accomplished? They need to frame the results of their Law and the discoveries about Newton’s Second Law of motion using the model of the scientific Scientific Method method. Now the students need to communicate (a key 21st century skill) their results using Essay/Lab Report on their mind map as a structure in the form of an essay/lab report. The focus of this Newton’s Second assessment is not how to write a formal lab report, but to communicate how the Law and the scientific methods allowed them to gain a deep understanding of Newton’s Second Scientific Method Law of motion. The students will be given guidance of how they should structure their essay/lab report and a rubric will be provided for additional guidance.
