System for Adult Basic Education Support (SABES): 2007-present

Co-Director SABES Program Support PD Center (July 2018 – present)


Developed and co-direct a new MA professional development (PD) center.
Work in creative and responsive ways to provide PD based on High Quality PD
(HQPD) Standards to maximize opportunities for the adult learners we serve.
 Provide lead responsibility in the priority areas for Program Management
and Educational Leadership, Digital Literacy, Distance Learning, and ABE
Licensure Support.
 Supervise staff and subject matter experts and oversee all PD instructional
design, development, and delivery in the above priority content areas to
ensure alignment with ACLS policy, Indicators of Program Quality, and MA
HQPD Standards.
 Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of PD on educator practice.
 Assemble and convene an advisory group to inform our efforts.
 Work collaboratively with the Program Support PD Center Co-Director,
ACLS PD Specialist, PD Communication Center, and Curriculum &

Instruction PD Centers to address systemwide PD needs and to promote
cohesive, systemwide messaging and support.
 Attend and present at relevant adult education meetings and conferences
such as MCAE, COABE, NCTN, and the ACLS Directors’ Meeting, and NCTN.

Director: SABES Coordination Center (2014 – 2018) and Central Resource


Center (CRC) (2007 – 2014)
Collaborated with the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
(ESE)/Adult and Community Learning Services (ACLS) professional development
(PD) liaison to coordinate the statewide SABES system:
 Led efforts to promote alignment of PD with the College and Career
Readiness Standards for Adult Education (CCRSAE), the Workforce
Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), ACLS priorities, and the MA HQPD
Standards.
 Developed, organized, delivered, and evaluated four annual statewide
CCRSAE conferences attended by > 90% of ESE-funded programs;
collaborated with PD Centers, ACLS, and nationally recognized expert
presenters. Coordinated and delivered four Annual Summer ABE Directors’
Institutes.
 Led efforts to support PD system continuous improvement efforts by
drafting and providing support for using key tools, such as qualitative and
quantitative analysis, WIOA, research on evaluating the impact of PD on
educator practice, and HQPD Standards.
 Annually, identified, compiled, and analyzed quantitative and qualitative
systemwide data to create and present SABES Performance Reports of
system highlights, strengths, progress, and areas for growth.
 Convened twice annually an ACLS and SABES Advisory Group of diverse
stakeholders to inform PD and system planning.
 Appointed by the ACLS Director to serve a three-year term on the
statewide ESE Adult Basic Education Advisory Council and to represent
SABES on the New England Literacy Resource Center (NELRC) Board.
 Maintained regular communication with the ACLS PD liaison on priorities
and projects. Monitored and implemented decisions and action plans. With
the liaison, co-planned and co-facilitated monthly face-to-face and online
meetings, including providing access to WebEx for online meetings.
 Responsibilities as CRC director included oversight of ABE licensure
support, statewide distance learning courses, and curriculum and
assessment teams.

Massachusetts Adult Literacy Hotline (2007 – present)


Director
Supervise the Hotline Coordinator and support staff; oversee database, website,
and call center that make referrals to resources and over 300 adult education
programs. Managed process to make the website comply with accessibility

requirements and migrate it to a .gov url. Exceed contractual goals each year.

Workplace Education Programs (2015 – present)


Director
Develop and lead the planning, needs analysis process, design, and
implementation of two Workplace Education (WE) programs. Led the evaluation
of the Seaport WE project that demonstrated strong outcomes and resulted in
Seaport’s decision to continue funding the project after the grant ends.

Ed Tech Center, Technology Testing for Adult Learning and Employment


(TTALE) (2017-2018)
Project Manager
In partnership with the national Employment Technology Fund, adult education
programs and employer field test sites, and ed tech tool developers, oversaw the
national TTALE field test project to evaluate new technology solutions designed
to increase economic mobility for low-income adults in the U.S. Coordinated
collection, analysis, evaluation, and reporting of field testing data to inform a
new, national repository of ed tech tools and best practices for adults.

1999-2007 Massasoit Community College, Brockton, MA (1999 – 2007)

Director, Stoughton Adult Basic Education Program (1999-2007)


Designed, wrote proposal for, implemented, and provided leadership for a new
ESOL program for the Town of Stoughton, funded by a grant from ESE.
Contributed to ESE priorities by serving on statewide committees such as the
Performance Accountability Work Group (PAWG), Goal Setting Workgroup, and
the ABE Director’s Council. Provided Rates, Excel, Data Analysis, and Using Data
for Continuous Program Improvement training through SABES.

Director, Massasoit Transitions to College Program (2005-2007)


Developed and managed all aspects of this new program funded by a grant from
ESE. Researched effective transitions models; designed, wrote proposal for, and
developed the program based on research and best practices; recruited, tested,
and enrolled students from area ABE programs; and collaborated with credit and
non-credit college departments to meet learners’ needs.

Site Manager Plymouth Job Training and Placement Program
Managed all aspects of an Office Skills Training and Job Placement Program that
enabled adults to transition from public assistance to full-time employment;
developed and taught contextualized academic and job readiness curriculum in
response to employer needs, including proofreading, digital literacy, life skills,
job search, medical office, and customer service classes. As job developer,

connected with South Shore companies to generate job leads for students;
achieved a 90% student placement rate into full-time jobs with benefits.
