Cathedral Church

Cathedral Church is a church in Central Jakarta. This church designed by Antonius

Djikmans, the architecture is very commonly used to build a church building a few
centuries ago, and followed by Caypers Hulswit with the neo Gotic style. This church
was inaugurated on 21st April 1901. Cathedral as we know it, is not the original
church building in that place, because the original cathedral was inaugurated in
February 1810, but on 27th July 1826 the church building was burned along with 180
houses in the vicinity.

This church building area is 1200 𝑚2 , with cross shaped and three towers on it. They
are Daud Battelments tower, lvory and Angelous Dei with very high door and many
windows. On the main door, was a marble that tells that this church was founded by
architect name is Marius Hulswit.

In south of this building was a white marble that tells that this church was drawn by
Antonius Djikmas. On the right and left side of this building were the chambers as a
confession of sin. In front of it was sacred alter that given by Commissioner General
Du Bus de Cisigners.

The cathedral is one of Indonesia's cultural heritage that should be maintained and
preserved. Inside of the church was library and museum about history of the catholic
religion in Jakarta. The opposite of the Cathedral Church was an Istiqlal Mosque. This
indicates that Indonesian people has been living in very good togetherness and
tolerance each other.
