II. RATIONALE

Cultural exchange has been dominant in the Philippines, and it has this purpose of
improving friendship, building connections and fostering belongingness among other
people. Japan, being known as one of the most influential countries in the world, has been
continuing to progress their vision by understanding others’ values, adapting to changes
and nurturing their culture amidst diversity. The increasing level of respect and acceptance
through cultural program creates a balance between assimilation and honoring country’s
history. Through one’s unique experiences and the sharing of one’s customs, Filipinos will
learn that there are different ways of understanding culture and thus, will have a reflection
of their cultural heritage. A substantial benefit to sharing one’s culture is breaking
stereotypes. By sharing, one can help in creating a more open and culturally aware society.

With this, the Ateneo Sarong Bangui Junior Eagles (ASBJE) Club, in line with Education
as one of its areas of concern, with the Kwansei Gakuin University UeHabi (RIN Team 13.1)
Nishinomiya, Hyogo, Japan, through Mr. Leo O. Borras of the Center for Community
Development (CCD) will be holding the RIN 13.1: Share the World Learning Work Camp 13.
It primarily aims to promote friendship and cultural exchange among the members as well
as to connect culturally diverse school and to spread joy and hope among Bicolano pupils
and at the same time help unleash their different potentials.

This is the highlight of the project and the very reason why the Japanese student-
volunteers had come all the way from Japan – for the children. The Japanese team
together with the organization will visit and interact with the children of the partner
communities; conduct different games and activities from Japan (e.g. origami, Japanese
dodge ball); and get acquainted with the children. Thus, the organization hopes that the
children will have fun and will be able to appreciate and respect the beauty of other
cultures.
Thus, through sharing cultural activities, the students from Japan as well as Filipino
Students from Ateneo de Naga University would have a perfect time to bond, to exchange
more ideas and experiences that could help each individual inculcate their shared learning
during their week stay in Bicol.

III. OBJECTIVES
The project primarily aims:

• To share the rich and diverse culture of Japan by introducing their culture through
numerous activities such as their traditional and contemporary games, as well as
paper folding, and other activities that would unleash the country’s grandeur;
• To foster friendship and learning not only among the Filipino and Japanese student-
volunteers but most especially with the Bicolano children by conducting fun and
interactive activities;
• To assist the Japanese volunteers to easily communicate with the children by
explaining their thoughts into Bicol Naga Dialect.

IV. ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION & COMPONENTS

RIN 13.1 is a 10-day inter-cultural and educational activity wherein the Japanese student-
volunteers, with the help of the organization, visit selected partner communities and
conduct art workshops, lessons on language and culture, and all other essential things
about Japan. In return, the organization as well as other Filipino student-volunteers
introduce and share the Philippine culture to the foreign student-volunteers through series
of activities and guide them throughout the duration of the activity.

Community/ScInteraction (RIN Proper)

This is the highlight of the project and the very reason why the Japanese student-volunteers
had come all the way from Japan – for the children. The Japanese team together with the
organization will visit and interact with the children of the partner communities; conduct
different games and activities from Japan (e.g. origami, Japanese dodge ball); and get
acquainted with the children. Thus, the organization hopes that the children will have fun
and will be able to appreciate and respect the beauty of other cultures.
