In developing countries, increased contraceptive use has already cut the annual
unmber of maternal death by 50% over the pass 15years and reduced the
maternal mortality ratio by about 20%. Expanding the number of women in the
workforce by increasing contraceptive use could increased per capital income in
some countries by as much as 15% by 2020 and 25% by 2030 in many developing
countries. In Africa, family planning prevalence is projected to increase from 17
to 27 percent, from 23 to 34 percent middle African and from 40 to 55 percent in
Eastern. Family planning prevalence in 2015 was several times as high as in
Northern and Southern Africa 53 percent and 64 percent, respectively as in
Middle Africa. In Africa, contraceptive use has been inceased recently.
Different reports indicate the “the reasons why women do not use
contraceptives most commonly include insufficient knowledge about
importance of family planning.” The study said a large number of women who
have not planned on immediately having a child find themselves pregnant. This
was attributed to lack of knowledge about contraceptivemethod or lack of
awareness about their fertility period. In addition to these, many women
abstain from family planning due to rumors from entourage and peer groups.
PROBLEM STATED
