Edmonton Journal Civic Election Candidate

Roberto Maglalang, 56. Running for Councillor, Ward 11

What are the three biggest issues in your campaign?

Your number one issue, and why?

Promoting economic growth for the City and its residents.

The City is lagging behind Calgary, Vancouver and most developed cities in the world in terms of economic activities.I want the
City to be economically vibrant, with lots of small-scale business in operations, with full employment and more family income, and
with equality in income distribution.

Number two issue, and why?

Efficient operations of City's services-transportation,utilities and housing for the homeless.Property taxes are beyond the means of
senior citizens who live on fixed pensions.

We do not have enough transportation in the evening, water supply and electricity costs are prohibitive specially to the seniors,
and more people are becoming homeless.

Number three issue, and why?

Motivation for higher education.

We need to encourage students to pursue higher education in engineering and sciences. We have to reduce drop out rates in
high school and improve quality of higher education so that our school will rank amongst the top 50 schools in North America.

Which should be a higher spending priority for council, LRT construction or road construction, and why?
LRT construction LTR should take precedents over road construction as we move to the end of 21st century.

City council has turned down a motion to hold a non-binding plebiscite on keeping the City Centre Airport as a
general aviation facility. Should the new council reopen the airport issue?
