Xerox PWS Framework v4.4

Introduction
Xerox PWS Framework provides common PWS Diagnostic Tool
and Software Download functionality for numerous Xerox
products. The PWS Framework install application will install
and/or update all product tools identified below.

Note: Always install the latest version of PWS Framework


available. The most recent version of each product tool is
included on every Multi-Product PWS Diagnostic Tool Update
CD.
This CD includes the following product tools:
• 4112/4127 SW Download Tool v1.1.1
• 4110/4590/4595 PWS Diagnostic Tool V1.8.1
• DocuColor 5000 PWS Diagnostic Tool v1.3.1
• DC8000/7000/8000AP/7000AP PWS Diagnostic Tool v 6.0.1
• DocuColor 250 PWS Diagnostic Tool v1.5.1
• DocuColor 242/252/260 SW Download Tool v1.2.1
• WorkCentre 7132 SW Download Tool v1.3.1
• WorkCentre 7232/7242 SW Download Tool v1.1.1
• WorkCentre 7328/7335/7345 SW Download Tool v1.2.1

Prerequisites:
The PWS Tools were developed for all Xerox support PWS
platforms with WinXP using GSN Release 9.2 or higher.

Change Highlights
Significant changes have been made to the PWS Framework
InstallShield application to simplify the product tool installs.
Refer to the PWS Framework Release Notes in the
Documentation folder on this CD for specific product details.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
You must uninstall EPC PWS Diagnostic Tools V3.8 and lower
to remove links from the DC8000 and DC7000 Your Product
Folders.

Uninstall Xerox PWS Diagnostic Tools v3.8 or lower


Use the following steps to uninstall Xerox PWS Diagnostic
Tools v3.8 or lower. (Note: Do not uninstall PWS Diagnostic
Tool V3.9 if you service DocuColor 2045/2060/5252/6060).

1. Select Start, Settings, Control Panel, and Add or Remove


Programs.

2. Select Xerox PWS Diagnostic Tools v3.x. (v3.6, v3.7 or
v3.8). Note: If v3.9 is installed do not uninstall. The DC8000
links have been removed in that version.
3. Select Change/Remove. Select Yes to confirm file deletion.
4. If prompted, select No to All to remove shared files.
5. Select OK when uninstall is completed.

Uninstall Xerox PWS Framework


You must uninstall any previous Xerox PWS Framework. There
are two PWS Framework uninstall procedures at the end of this
document. Select the appropriate procedure based on the
version of PWS Framework installed on your PWS. Follow the
steps below to determine the version installed on the PWS.
1. Select Start, Settings, Control Panel, and Add/Remove
Programs. The Add or Remove Program application opens.
2. Scroll the window scroll to select “Xerox PWS Framework”.
Do not remove yet. Select Click here for support
information to determine your current version. You will have
one of the following options:
• PWS Framework 4.0.13 (and lower), OR
• PWS Framework v4.1 (and higher)
3. Select Close to close the Support Info screen. Go to the
Uninstall section at the end of this document and select the
appropriate procedure to remove Xerox PWS Framework.
When uninstall is complete return to the following section to
install the new Xerox PWS Framework.

Install Xerox PWS Framework v4.4


Warning: You must uninstall any previous version of PWS
Framework and reboot prior to installing the new Framework.
Warning: GSN Lock must be running, the Bus Station must
be closed, and the network cable must be disconnected to
complete the install without XPRO configuration problems.
1. Insert the Multi-Product PWS Diagnostic Tool Update CD in
the PWS CD-ROM drive. If the “What do you want Windows
to do?” message window appears, select Cancel.
2. From the Start menu select Run. Browse to the CD-ROM
drive.
3. Double-click to select PWS Framework Setup.exe. Select
OK in the Run dialog box.
Note: The InstallShield Wizard may take 2 to 3 minutes to
display. Please be patient. Do not select multiple times. The
hourglass is not present but the wizard is launching.
4. Select “I accept the terms of the license agreement” and
select Next.
5. As required, select C:\Xerox\PWS Diagnostic Tool as the
install directory if multiple drives are configured.
6. The InstallShield Wizard message may appear, “Microsoft
.Net Framework 1.1 will now be installed on this computer.
This may take up to 30 minutes depending on your machine.
Please wait for this install to complete.”

a) Select OK to install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1.
b) If a Software Installation message about Windows Logo
testing appears, select Continue Anyway.
7. The Xerox PWS Framework - InstallShield Wizard checks
the PWS configuration to determine if any product tools are
already installed. You should see the message “No Existing
Products to be Upgraded”.
Note: If the message indicating, “These products were found
and will be upgraded” appears, PWS Framework v4.4 is already
installed. Complete this procedure to add product tools that were
not previously installed.
Note: Some products, like DC250 will include the latest System
SW (bin files) along with the PWS tools. If you do not want to
install the System SW on the PWS due to space limitations,
expand the tree and deselect the System Software options.
8. Select the products you want to install from the list. Select
Next. The product tools will be installed in the order listed.
Install could take up to 10 minutes depending on the
products selected.
9. If prompted, select “Yes, I want to restart my computer
now”
10. Select Finish at InstallShield Wizard Complete screen.
11. Close all applications. Reboot the PWS if not completed in
the previous step.
12. The Xerox PWS Framework installation is complete.
Continue this procedure to complete the remaining
installation requirements.
13. Connect to GSN Bus Station and transfer any downloads
that may be required.

UNINSTALL INSTRUCTIONS
You must remove any previous version of Xerox PWS
Framework prior to installation of new Xerox PWS Framework.

Uninstall Xerox PWS Framework v4.1 (or higher)


Follow the steps below to uninstall Xerox PWS Framework v4.1
(and higher) and all product tools. The most recent version of
each product tool will be reinstalled with the new Xerox PWS
Framework.
1. Select Start, Settings, Control Panel, and Add/Remove
Programs.
2. Select Xerox PWS Framework and select Remove. The
PWS Framework Uninstall warning message will identify the
product tools that will be uninstalled.
3. Select Next.
4. The message, “Would you like to delete all saved Machine
Data and NVM Access Files” appears, select No to save the
files. (Select Yes if you do not need the saved files).
5. Select Finish at the Uninstall Complete screen. The
computer will reboot. Uninstall is complete. Go to the install
section above.

6. As required, delete residual PWS Diagnostic Tool shortcuts
from the PWS as follows:
a) Select Start, Programs, Xerox Applications, Xerox
Product Tools, and PWS Diagnostic Tools.
b) Delete the product links for Xerox DC250 PWS
Diagnostic Tool and Xerox 4110_4590 PWS Diagnostic
Tool. The new links will be created during the installation
of PWS Framework.
Uninstall Xerox PWS Framework 4.0.13 (or lower)
The uninstall program for earlier versions of Xerox PWS
Framework was not automated. The InstallShield Wizard will
launch for each product to complete the uninstall.
1. Select Remove. The PWS Framework Uninstall warning will
indicate which product tools will be uninstalled.
2. Select Next. The product tools will be removed in the order
they are listed.
3. If the 4110/4590 tools are installed, the 4110/4590 PWS
InstallShield Wizard screen will open.
a) Select Yes to the question, “Would you like to delete all
saved Machine Data and NVM Access files”.
b) If prompted, select “No to All” to remove shared files.
c) Select Finish at the Uninstall Complete screen.
4. If the DC250 tools are installed, the DC250 PWS
InstallShield Wizard screen will open.
a) Select Yes to the question, “Would you like to delete all
saved Machine Data and NVM Access files”.
b) If prompted, select “No to All” to remove shared files.
c) Select Finish at the Uninstall Complete screen.
5. If the DC5000 tools are installed, the DC5000 PWS
InstallShield Wizard screen will open.
a) Select Yes to the question, “Would you like to delete all
saved Machine Data and NVM Access files”.
b) If prompted, select “No to All” to remove shared files.
c) Select Finish at the Uninstall Complete screen.
6. If the WC_7132 tools are installed, the WC_7132 PWS
InstallShield Wizard screen will open.
a) Select Yes to the question, “Would you like to delete all
saved Machine Data and NVM Access files”.
b) If prompted, select “No to All” to remove shared files.
c) Select Finish at the Uninstall Complete screen.
7. If prompted, at the Xerox PWS Framework Uninstall
Complete screen select “Yes, I want to restart my
computer now”. Then select Finish.
8. As required, delete residual PWS Diagnostic Tool shortcuts
from the PWS as follows:
a) Select Start, Programs, Xerox Applications, Xerox
Product Tools, and PWS Diagnostic Tools.

b) Delete the product links for Xerox DC250 PWS
Diagnostic Tool and Xerox 4110_4590 PWS Diagnostics
Tool. The new links will be created during the installation
of PWS Framework.
9. Close the “Add or Remove Program” window. Restart the
PWS if not completed in the previous step.

Uninstall specific individual Product Tools

This procedure is provided to enable the uninstall of specific


product tools installed with Framework v4.4 to clean up the PWS
without uninstalling the current Xerox PWS Framework. Follow
the procedure below and select the appropriate program name
in step 2 to remove that application.
Note: For the typical PWS Diagnostic Tool update you do not
have to uninstall individual product tools. Uninstall the previous
Xerox PWS Framework which will uninstall all product tools.

• Xerox WC_7328_7335_7345 SW Download Tool
1. Select Start, Settings, Control Panel, and Add/Remove
Programs.
2. Select the program application to remove (see list above).
3. Select Remove. As required, select Yes to confirm.
4. Select No to the uninstall question, “Would you like to delete
all saved Machine Data and NVM Access Files”. (Select Yes
if you do not need these files).
5. If prompted, select “No to All” to remove shared files.
6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 for each product required.
