The U.S. Department of the Treasury Renews MITRE Contract to
Operate FFRDC

McLean, Va., and

Bedford, Mass., Oct.
10, 2018—The MITRE
Corporation announced
that The U.S.
Department of the
Treasury has renewed its contract through 2023
to operate the Center for Enterprise
Modernization (CEM), a federally funded
research and development center (FFRDC).

Under the agreement, CEM acts as a decision

partner, integrator, innovation partner and
systems engineer to meet mission-critical needs
of the Treasury, including the Internal Revenue
Service (IRS), through fact-based, data-driven
analysis and decision support. CEM supports
Treasury goals including boosting economic
growth, promoting financial stability, and
achieving operational excellence.

comprehensive review period to have been

selected as a mission partner for the Treasury
and its bureaus for the next five years," said
Beth Meinert, vice president and director for
MITRE's Center for Enterprise Modernization –
Financial and Economic Transformation. "We
look forward to working with them to solve the
complex problems being faced across the
organization."

The conflict-free FFRDC model lets the IRS use

private sector resources to accomplish mission-
integral tasks through the greater use of new
technology, efficiency, and effectiveness through
new, more agile business models and
information technology management.

CEM, one of seven federally funded R&D centers

operated by MITRE, and the IRS seek to meet
taxpayers' real-time expectations by innovating
business processes and integrating new
technologies into existing systems.
