8 Habits of Mind* Curiosity: the desire to know more about the world. Curiosity is fostered when writers work to formulate and reformulate questions, seek out information (and recognize its value) and conduct research, reflect on what puzzles them, etc. Openness: the willingness to consider new ways of being and thinking in the world by examining one's perspective in relation to those of others and looking for points of connection as well as difference; a willingness to revisit certain assumptions in light of new and compelling ideas and information. Engagement: a sense of investment and involvement in learning. Creativity: the ability to use novel approaches for generating, investigating, and representing ideas; a willingness to take risks. Persistence: a willingness to commit to exploring in writing compelling questions, grapple with ideas, challenges. Responsibility: the ability to take ownership of one's actions and recognize one's role in the learning process Flexibility: the ability to adapt to situations, expectations, or demands.
