PROJECT TITLE: Research Colloquium & Festival

Date: September 15th & October 6th/ 1pm-5pm
Venue: WBNHS Multi-Purpose Hall
Participants: Grade 12 Students
I. PROJECT RATIONALE:
Research is an act of studying something carefully, and extensively in order to attain deep
knowledge in a certain area of concern. Furthermore, Kerlinger (2008) stressed that a good research should be
systematic, arranged, summarized, and recorded properly (p.23). However, one must realize that it is not only a
process limited to the field of science. Actually, research takes place within most of the professions. It can, as well,
cater to people and scholars from artistic, historic or any other field where an individual is willing to do extensive
study to get relevant information. Research can be creative, exploring or just reassuring in nature. At some point,
everyone has done a form of research in their life. Also, it can affect a subject both positively and negatively and
can be constructive or destructive in nature. Thus, the need for proper, timely and sufficient research should be
enforced to the young generation to ensure a better quality of life.

In relation to this, the research colloquium and festival is a 2-day event that will be participated by the
Grade 12 students who are currently taking up Practical Research II. Initially, each section has been divided into 6
groups and has been tasked to create a research proposal related to their strand. Moreover, the research proposal,
being a requirement in the said subject, will be presented during the research colloquium, and approved by selected
teachers as panelists. Then, they will be given sufficient time to administer the actual research and the chosen
research group per section will present their findings during the research festival. Finally, winners will be
determined by the panelists as judges in the event.

II. PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the research festival, the participants should be able:
1. to realize the crucial importance of research in this rapidly changing society;
2. to identify potential educational problems/issues in the senior high school;
3. to provide possible ways to address the problems/issues; and
4. to apply all learned knowledge and understanding in Practical Research among the senior high
school students.
