Strengths of the lesson:

 Good positive start

 Very nice game to start the lesson
 Good reminders to raise hands and not say ‘me’
 Very good to get them to identify the numbers
 Children engaged and enjoying carpet time
 Much more confident
 Good that your MST helps you but you should know how to use the Smart Board after one
week – practice 
 Good, clear instructions
 Much better voice
 Much improved classroom management
 Good relationship with MST
 Nice fun activities
 Very nice rapport and connection with the children
 Supported children well with a good positive attitude (but see below)
 Good to have a second activity involving writing
 Better monitoring in the second activity because you walked around the children and
checked on them (although you only monitored one group, your MST monitored the other
two)
 Overall, a huge improvement in your teaching, monitoring, supporting, instructions and
confidence 
Focus for next lesson:
 Stay focused on reminding them not to say ‘me’
 Try to be a bit warmer when telling them to stay in their place – don’t use your voice too
much to reprimand, use your eyes
 Try not to shout when giving instructions – it comes across as you are a bit angry
 Were all the children on task all the time?
 Did the children finish the activities before the time? Did you have a back-up activity? What
happens in such circumstances?
 Why do you think they have so many questions during activity time?
 Think about giving a little more positive feedback to improve your relationship with the
children
 Tidy up time after the first activity started out well but then it got a bit messy with children
wandering around – what happened?
 Work on your transitions – they need to be a bit smoother, this will save time and help you
to finish the lesson on time
 How did you assess learning? Are you assessing learning of each child?
 Try some EYFS activities – they are very hands on
Assessment of Teaching Competencies (Semester 7 and 8) – I will complete this next
time as it is a bit soon to evaluate all of this.
