Shifting the goalposts with authenticity
In a world where everything seems to be changing so
quickly, teachers have to focus on adapting their teaching
to make it more suitable and effective for the current age.

Faced with classrooms of ‘screenagers’ who embrace

being digital residents, the way we use technology with
students has to be tempered with the need to bring out
the best of their humanity and enhance not only their
practical knowledge of English but also help them to
discover how they can use this to communicate creatively
with other people. We need to make sure that along with
all the latest software, video and learning management
systems our lessons always contain an element of
authenticity and that this is what makes our classes real,
relevant and useful in the modern world.
