PROGRAM OF CHURCH MANAGEMENT
Dear Student,
lam Msgr. Martin Schlag, Professor of Moral Theology at Pontifical University of the Holy Cross and Director of,
the "Markets, Culture and Ethics" (MCE) Research Centre,
| write you about the emerging need of Church to be exemplary in the stewardship of her material assets in
order to give testimony to the Gospel. To respond to and raise awareness of this great need the Pontifical
University of the Holy Cross in Rome has recently launched the Program of Church Management (PCM).
PCM is designed to serve the Universal Church training priests, seminarians, religious and laity for exemplary
stewardship of the Church's temporal patrimony and to give witness to the gospel, according to Canon Law and
‘good managerial practices in conformity with the principles of Catholic Social Teaching. This formation is
designed so that the Church might most authentically be a poor Church for the poor, and so that every Church
institution might truly be a light for the world and a city on a hill (Mt 5:14). PCM aims to instillin our students,
‘especially our priests, a vocational generosity so that their tasks of pastoral management may complement and
ot distract from their priestly ministry of offering the sacraments, preaching the Word of God, and spiritual
accompaniment of the faithful while striving for personal holiness.
Inthe current First Cohort of PCM, 2018-2019, about 40 participants enrolled, including current students of
the Pontifical Universities in Rome, as well as General Vicars, Chancellors, General Administrators, and Bishops
‘coming from all over the world: Africa, Asia, North and South America, Europe and Oceania,
Pope Francis recently encouraged us to forge ahead with POM
