The 21st ASEAN Cocoa Club (ACC) Meeting

AGENDA 11.1.1: COCOA ASSOCIATION OF ASIA (CAA)

Following were the activities carried out by CAA in 2017/2018 to date:

1. International Cocoa Conference and Gala Dinner

The main activity for CAA in 2017 was the organisation of the above event that was held at
Resorts World Sentosa on 3-4th October 2017.

The Conference attracted about 300 participants from around the world of which about
40% were from Singapore, 35% were from other Asian countries and balance 25% from
Europe/America/Australasia and Africa.

The Dinner had around 480 attendees during which CAA launched the Cocoa Trading
Program – the first initiative under the CAA Academy. This program, which is in
collaboration with Singapore Management University aims at formulating short
courses/training programs for anyone interested in having a better understanding of the
different aspects of the cocoa trading and cocoa processing industry. The CTP is expected
to be offered in the beginning of 2019. The program is also expected to be offered to
SMU students too as an elective in the Business and Management Course at SMU in
future.

2. Meeting with FCC – 2nd October 2017

CAA Exco and some members attended a meeting with FCC, who was represented by their
CEO, Mr Phil Sigley and a few of their members.

During the meeting, we had updates from FCC regarding various issues including on FCC
Contract and Arbitrations, Pesticides and Contaminants, Quality Standards. The Meeting
also looked to explore possible areas of collaboration between CAA and FCC such as on
the usage and application of FCC Contract and Arbitration rules in Asia.

3. CAA Members Dialogue with Jim Rogers – 3rd Oct 2017

This was a special session organised for CAA members with Mr Jim Rogers, in
conjunction with the International Cocoa Conference. About 90 members and their invited
guests participated. Participants had the opportunity to hear and chat with the leading
investment guru as he shared his views, knowledge and experience on the economy and
general matters relating to the Asian economy and region.

4. CAA Cocktail – 18th January 2018
This was a social and networking event for members and associates. It was also a means
to show appreciation to members for their support in the organising and participation of
the Conference and Gala Dinner.

5. On-going Activities

(1) CAA grinds

The quarterly grinds (compilation of Malaysian, Singapore and Indonesian grinds
as contributed by CAA members) are on-going and are posted on CAA website.

(2) Discussions with ICE (Intercontinental Exchange)

CAA continues to engage with ICE regarding the possibility of having Singapore
as a physical tendering point in Asia.
