Lesson Plan based on LTT activities in Sofia, Bulgaria

Title: Subject: Greek Language
Age: 7 Teacher’s name: Maria Nicolaou Country: Cyprus
Objectives Students should:

• Use narrative techniques (beginning, middle, end) in order to

narrate an event.
• Use verbs in past tense to narrate an event.

Materials and Storybook, ppt, narrator’s guitar and hat, stuffed lion, poster, figures for the
equipment board (lion and Petros), worksheet, plickers cards, story flashcards, cards with
verbs in past tense.

Procedure

Step 1: Introduction: Processing of the storybook cover (title, author, illustrator,

publisher).

The students sit down in a circle. The teacher presents the title of the book
along with the narrator’s guitar and hat and the students make predictions
about the story. They note them on paper shaped like a footprint. These are
then placed on the floor to form the road towards the revealing of the passage.

The students write on card one word they think is going to appear in the story.
The cards are placed on the board.

Step 2: The teacher reads the book aloud and the students mention their first
impressions and feelings. The students check their predictions. The teacher
asks questions such as:

Who is the main character of the story?

Where is the story taking place?

What made the greater impression to Petros at the zoo?

Why did Petros have nightmares?

Why wasn’t the change of sleeping place successful?

What happened in the end?

Why did Petros think the lion winked at him? Did it really do that?

Step 3:
The students work with their partner to put the story flashcards in the correct
order.
Step 4:
Evaluation using Plickers

Step 5: A big card with the outline of Petros and the lion is placed on the board (words
matching with each character). Students stick post-it notes with thoughts and
feelings for each character.
Step 6:
The students locate the structural elements of narration. A discussion regarding
the characters and the setting follows.

The main parts of the story are located

BEGINNING: When? Where? Who?

MIDDLE: Plot of the story, facts and plot twist.

END: Ending relating to the plot twist.

Step 7:
Grammar: The teacher gives half the students cards with verbs in past tense
and the others cards with verbs in present simple. The students walk around in
the class in order to find their partner (matching verb). The matching verb
cards are placed on the board and a relevant discussion follows.

Evaluation on past tense using plickers.

Step 8:
The plot’s twist: After reading the relevant part using different feelings, the
students fill in a worksheet with a dialogue between Petros and the lion which
they act out. Still scenes: The still scenes come alive and students express
themselves.

Extension of the story:

a. Hot seat (the lion explains itself)
b. Partner work: the students rewrite the dialogue between Petros and
the lion after the plot’s twist is changed.
