This article is about Angela Merkel and how she announced that she is going to be

stepping down from her position as leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and her

greatest mistakes and accomplishments. On October 29, Angela Merkel announced that she was

no longer going to be the leader of the CDU. It is questioned if she will be able to continue as

chancellor of Germany, even though she says she wants to. Angela Merkel has had a very

successful career. She took her first position in government in 2005. She has had a great

influence on German politics and is considered to be one of the most powerful women in the

world. However, it is regarded by many that her greatest mistake throughout her career is that of

opening the borders of Germany to refugees in 2015. She had encountered many other issues

throughout her career including nuclear energy and international politics. In Germany, she is

thought of by many as playing the roles of not only chancellor but also a president and a civil

servant-in-chief. How she deals with politics and democracy has been referred to as different and

yet effective and that only a leader that is also regarded as a civil servant-in-chief could achieve.
