Shuttle Tanker – v. FPSO

“MT Britannia” version 4.0.0.
1. The DP system shall be in Standby mode, with no Position reference-systems selected.
2. Double-Press the Take button on the Operator Panel.
Observe the panel layout for MT Britannia. The layout differs from the Operator Panel on
your desk:

3. Set the WVane view in the Performance area.

Set the Thr Main view in the Monitoring area.
Set the Posplot view in the Working Area.
Use appropriate range on the Posplot view, with Mode set to True, Vessel
4. Select View and submenu Reset Display Units.
- Click Yes to reset the Display Units to Metric Units.
5. In View/Position Presentation …, select Geographic Co-ordinate system.
6. In View/DisplayUnits, select User Definable 1, and set all Speed selections to knots.
7. In OffLoad/Select Buoy, select Myrica FPSO.
8. Open the System/Trainer dialog box.
 Enter a Buoy Offset (Rel. Bow) of N 2000 m and E 200 m.
(When you later enter Joystick mode, and enable a Position-reference system, the
stern of the Myrica FPSO will appear in this position relative to the bow of Britannia.)
- Wind Speed 20 knots, Direction 350°.
- Sea Current Speed 0.3 knots, Direction 340°
9. Enable sensors: Gyro, Wind, VRS and Draught.
Enable all thrusters, propellers and rudders.
Select suitable settings for Trace line and Trend symbols.

10. Enter Joystick mode with automatic heading control and select GPS-1 as Reference
11. Manoeuvre the vessel by the joystick towards the FPSO, with a speed of maximum 3
12. Stop the vessel when the Stern distance in the WVane view is 900m.
13. When the vessel has stopped, change the Reference Origin to Artemis-1.

NOTE: The Stern distance displayed will be 208 meter shorter when you change the
Reference Origin from DGPS to any of the relative Position-reference systems. The
reason for this is that the Stern distance when using DGPS refers to the turret centre,
while the Stern Distance when using relative Position-reference systems, refers to the
stern of the FPSO.
14. Enter Approach mode.
(The Heading Strategy will now change to System Selected heading.)
15. Enable GPS-1, GPS-2, GPSRel-1 and GPSRel-2.
16. Press Change Position, and activate the Tandem functions:
- FSU Position, keep the settings Surge – 15m and Sway – 6m.
- FSU Heading, keep the settings Active – 15 deg, Inactive 5 – deg and Speed 0.6 kts.
Observe that the status for Artemis-1, GPSRel-1 and GPSRel-2 now has changed to
“Relative”, with zero Weight.
17. Set the Speed Setpoint to 1.0 knot and change the Setpoint Radius to 500m.
18. Observe the WVane, Dev WVane and Num WVane views, and see if you understand all
the information presented in each view.
19. While the vessel is moving ahead, activate the:
Position Limits: Warning 3m, Alarm 4m
Heading Limits: Warning 3º, Alarm 4º
WVane Limits: 5m Fore and Aft
VRS Limits: Pitch 3º, Roll 3º, Heave 3m
20. When the vessel has reached the 500m Setpoint Radius, change the Speed Setpoint to 0.5
kts. Change the Setpoint Radius to 150m.
21. When the vessel has stabilised on the 150m Setpoint Radius, change the Speed Setpoint to
0.4 kts. Provoke a Position Dropout, by disabling all position-reference systems. Observe
the message: Drive Off Detection: Position Dropout. Wait 5 minutes and observe how
good the vessel stays in position without position-reference system input.
22. Enable Artemis-1 as the Reference Origin.
- Observe the message: Drive Off Situation No Longer Active
23. Enable GPS-1, GPS-2, GPSRel-1 and GPSRel-2.
24. Wait 5 minutes to update the Vessel Model.

NOTE: A Position Dropout automatically deactivates the Tandem function FSU Position.
25. Activate the FSU Position function again. Keep the settings Surge – 15m and Sway – 6m.
26. Continue to reduce the Setpoint Radius until the vessel is on a Setpoint Radius of 65m.
Note: The vessel is now on location for the loading operation. Normally the procedure to
connect the Hawser and the Loading Hose will now start. The “Hose Connected” signal
is interfaced to the DP system.
27. Enter Weather vane mode, and observe the Alarm: HAWSER TENSION NOT
28. Set the Hawser Tension to Measured, and observe that the alarm becomes inactive.

Display with MT Britannia loading from Myrica FPSO.

Note: In this operation, the Connect and Loading buttons on the Operator Panel are not
used. These are used in Submerged Turret Loading (STL).
