1.4 Description of machine and available options

1.4.1 Description of machine
In a rigid welded machine housing with stationary machine table, the three main axes of the machine designated X, Y and Z form
the axes, perpendicular to each other, of a system of cartesian coordinates (Fig. 1).
The trimming spindle is attached to a tiltable Orthogonal or Fork head which is rotatable and mounted to the Z axis of the
machine (pictures 2 and 3).
The swivelling axis designated B, the rotatable axis designated C and the central axis of the milling spindle intersect in one point.
During machining the milling cutter tip moves constantly on a spherical surface round that point of intersection.
Machines with ultrasonic cutters are equipped with an additional rotatable axis (A axis) to be able to orientate the cutter blade to
the cutting direction.

1.4.2 Mechanics
Moving parts run in guide rails specially developed for machine-tools. These very compact longitudinal guideways are ball raced.
They have a minimum installed space and a high load-bearing capacity in all load directions and high rigidity. The ball races are
completely sealed and protected from dirt
The axes are driven by maintenance-free threephase servomotors by Siemens which feature high dynamic performance, high
static torque and high overload capacity.
Precision ball screws with zero backlash and long life are used to convert the rotary motion of the motors into a linear motion. In
the horizontal axes X and Y the ball screws are fixed and the nut rotates on balls round the screw. This allows high rpm and thus
high speeds also for long axis traverses without any shaft whip effect. Traversing ranges up to 6 meters can easily be run. The
screws of these axes are completely covered by bellows. Power transmission from motor to rotating ball nut is via toothed belt
drives.
In order to ensure exact parallelity between machine bed and machine axes, the machine table is finish milled by the machine
itself after fitting the axes. The machine table consists of 25mm thick and 130mm wide plate-stripes of high-strength aluminium
forging alloy. The table-stripes are provided with a grid of threaded bores and fit bores to clamp the workpieces and milling jigs.
The swarf can fall through the openings of the machine table slats. The machine can be equipped with swarf trays or an
automatic swarf extraction system (options).
The machine is delivered with fully enclosed safety enclosure with sliding door protected by limit switch and all-around windows
of polycarbonate.
The safety enclosure can be complemented with a noise abatement hood (option). For the processing of materials that can
release dust or fumes when being machined, the machine must be fully encapsulated. This full enclosure includes the safety
cabin and the noise abatement hood as well as suction flaps integrated into the enclosure to enable the connection to a sucti on
plant.
Various suction plants with filter systems adapted to the dust to be removed and to the pure air approved for recycling are also
available.

Measuring system:
The incremental shaft encoders which detect the exact position of the swivelling and rotary acxes (B and C axes) are directly
mounted onto the drive shaft behind the drive gear of each axis. The influence of inaccuracies due to mechanical transmission
elements is thus completely eliminated.
The measuring systems for the linear axes of the standard machine are also incremental shaft encoders which are housed in the
drive motors. If in addition to high repetitive accuracy – which is sufficient if the programs are generated by teach-in directly on
the machine – it is necessary to have high absolute accuracy, the machine can be equipped with “Heidenhain” linear scales.
This is necessary, for example, when programs are generated on a programming station or by a CAD system or when the
machine is used for the measurement of workpieces. However this is not recommended if the machine is required to have a high
dynamic performance.

1.4.3 Control and programming

1.4.3.1 Control
CNC controls by Siemens are used for control. For milling machines with five and more axes, the Sinumerik 840D SL control is
used

1.4.3.2 Programming
The control is programmed in the ISO code. This is a programming language standardized to ISO/DIN 66024 for CNC machines
which is meanwhile taught at many schools. Adult education centres and training centres offer courses for this programming
language. Siemens offers special training courses for the Sinumerik 840D SL control and the Geiss company too organizes
courses on how to learn the programming language and how to operate the machine.

1.4.3.3 Structure of the programming

The chief purpose in CNC programming is to define the path that the tool is to travel during machining. This is done by splitting
the path up into individual geometrically defined lines. Such geometrically defined lines are straight lines, circles and helices.
Each of these lines is described by its own program block by defining its end point in the system of coordinates and by a
description of how the machine is to perform the line. The instructions of how the machine is to perform the motion are given by
the so-called path conditions or G functions. The instructions that can be given to the computer for these path conditions may
vary widely and are described in detail in the programming instructions for the control.
Here is a selection of the most important path conditions:
G00 = Rapid traverse motion
G01 = Straight-on motion
G02 = Circular motion clockwise
G03 = Circular motion anticlockwise
(to describe a circle it is necessary, in addition to this command, to state the radius of this circle or where its centre is)
In addition to these there are also path conditions that allow, for example, the zero point of coordinates to be shifted to any
position with reference to the workpiece and to define the type of dimensioning (incremental dimension or reference dimension)
and the speed of the machine at the block transitions.
The geometrical description of the milling cutter path is complemented in the program by specifications for feed rate and spindle
rpm. So-called M functions permit switching commands to be given to the machine.
For example:
M03 Milling spindle ON; right-hand rotation
M04 Milling spindle ON; left-hand rotation
M05 Milling spindle STOP
M90 Open vacuum valve No. 1
M91 Close vacuum valve No.1 etc.

1.4.3.4 Possibilities of program generation and program input

The usual method to generate a program is to take the coordinate values from a drawing, to generate the program at the desk
and to input it into the machine control via keyboard. The program is tested there block by block and then released for
production.
Yet it is also possible to write a program on a PC and to send it to the machine via cable. In addition to an IBM compatible PC
and a serial data interface “COM1“ this requires only an ASCII editor and a software program for data transmission. This
software program, which also serves to archive programs generated on the machine, is also available from the Geiss company.
To simplify programming, a number of subroutines is available, for example a routine to describe a circle in a simple way in any
spatial position.
However, due to the complexity of workpieces or to lack of dimensions, many programs cannot be generated in this way. In this
case it is necessary to generate the program by teach-in of a previously manufactured prototype on the machine. Teach-in
means that the coordinate points required for the program are scanned with a handwheel and transferred into the program.
During teach-in, the program must be constantly complemented via keyboard with the necessary path conditions, switching
commands and feed rates. To spare the operator the exertion of walking to and fro between control and workpiece, a handy
held-hand programming unit (PHG) is available (see picture 3)

NC programs are now ever more frequently generated on CAD systems. Yet not every company owns already such a system
which is quite expensive especially in the three-dimensional field and requires highly qualified personnel. Geiss operates such
systems successfully since many years already.
Based on the experience accumulated in this field, Geiss can offer the customer not only the machines but also complete
product solutions including the milling programs and the workpiece holding fixtures (milling jigs).
The widespread design principle of the „Gimbal head“ and the use of the equally widespread future-oriented Sinumerik control
guarantee the customer the possibility to connect all future-oriented CAD systems. Many CAD providers offer already today
postprocessors capable of generating NC programs from CAD geometry data for machines with “Gimbal head” and Sinumerik
control. Further questions regarding this topic will be readily answered at any time.

1.4.4 Milling spindles

The milling spindles used have been developed and manufactured by the GEISS company itself. These spindles are exactly
adapted to the machine and are powered and driven by static frequency converters. The rpm can be preset steplessly via
program. The maximum rpm of the spindles is 30000. The peak performance of the water-cooled spindles is 6kW, the optimal
rpm range is between 24000 and 27000.
The most important design feature of the spindle is the through-going motor shaft. Both protruding shaft ends can be fitted with
collet chucks for tools with up to 10mm shaft diameter. Due to the rigid shaft support it is possible to clamp saw blades with up to
80mm diameter. The direction of rotation of the spindle can be inverted in a matter of seconds so that two tools are constantly
available. In contour milling, in most cases no further tool is necessary and the expensive and time-consuming tool change is
eliminated.
Alternatively, milling spindles with automatic tool changers by IMT with various performance ranges.

1.4.5 Supplementary equipments

To ensure the optimal use of the machine according to the application envisaged we offer a wide variety of supplementary
equipments, such as:
 a vertical partition to machine two small parts in succession without loss of time (option)

 a turntable to automate loading and unloading of the machine (option)

1.6 Machine Positioning Advice

The CNC trimming machine should preferably be unloaded with a fork lift truck.
The lifting capacity of the fork lift truck should be at least 6 tonnes; the required length of the forks should be 2 metres; the main
weight centre point is approx 1,3 metres beyond the machine front edge.
If the machine has to be unloaded with a crane, the lifting belts should be connected in accordance with the attached drawing.
Upon unloading the machine it can be transported and positioned with two low lift platform trucks.
The installation site has to be dry and easily accessible. The room temperature should be between 20°C and 25°C.
Temperatures below 10°C are to be avoided, since damage to the mechanical and electric system are to be expected. For
servicing purposes an area of approx. 1 metre width should be kept free all around the machine.
Machines with increased requirements regarding the accuracy (tolerance below 0,2mm within the workspace) should be put up
in a room with air condition. To avoid settling of the machine it is necessary to put the machine at a sufficiently dimensioned
foundation.

Any unevenness of the floor of the installation site should not exceed 10mm. After positioning of the machine, drill appropriate
anchoring devices into the floor to fix the position of the machine.
After the machine has been positioned, unscrew the transport fixings of the control cabinet and place it on the floor.
Alignment can be done with adjusting screws in the foot plates of the machine. A precision spirit level should be used to
determine that the machine is level (accuracy 0.1 mm/m). After alignment tighten lock bolts and check level once again.

ATTENTION: Prior to first start-up the machine must be accurately aligned to avoid damage to the guides and drives.

Next connect power and air connection (min. 6 bar) and connect plugs according to labels on control cabinet.
Due to the SIMATICS unit, the machine must not be connected to a net with FI protection device (allowed according DIN VDE
0160 / 05.88, section 6.5). When in operation, the machine offers protection in respect of direct contact as it is suitable for
installation in general operating plants (DIN VDE 0558 part 1 / 07.87,
section 5.4.3.2.4).
When connecting the cooling unit, please note:

Connection 1 = control cabinet cooling

Connection 2 = spindle cooling
If the machine is ordered without a cooling unit, an external cooler must be attached to the water circulation. The set up data
such as the temperature setting, etc. need to be agreed with GEISS AG to prevent any damage to the milling
spindle!
It is also advisable to check whether the cooling water contains a coolant additive which does not damage the milling
spindle.. The appropriate coolant additive can be obtained from GEISS.

Use the serviceable Antifrogen-Water-Mixture “RiFrost” from Rittal (GEISS Art.No. A06.000388)

The CNC trimming machine is now ready for operation.

WARNING:
The connection of the machine should only be carried out by a fully qualified electrician.

1.6.2 Electric Supply – Supply Voltage and Network Configuration

Supply Voltage The factory settings of the unit is set out for one of the below:

Voltage Max. Deviation Frequency Max. Deviation

1. 400V ±10% 50 Hz ±1%

2. 460V +10% / -5% 60 Hz ± 1%

Network Configuration The network configuration for the connection is a TN-system with a grounding point.
The connecting cable has four poles (L1, L2, L3 in the right rotary field and PEN)

For operation on IT supply systems, a monitoring device must signal the first fault
that occurs between an active part and ground. According to IEC 60364-41, it is
recommended that the first fault is removed as quickly as possible.

For line supplies with grounded phase conductor, an isolating transformer with
grounded neutral point (secondary) should be connected between the line supply and drive
system, in order to prevent the motor insulation from being inadmissibly stressed.
TT supply systems generally have a grounded phase conductor, so that in this case
an isolating transformer must be used.

Utilising an insulating An insulated transformer should be used when:

transformer the following connection requirements are present:
- The mains voltage of 400V lays outside of the tolerance level of ±10% at 50Hz.
The mains voltage of 460V lays outside of the tolerance level of +10% and -5% at
60Hz.
- The network configuration is IT or TT (unbalanced mains, as one phase is earthed)

According appendix B2 of the standard EN 848-3:1999, CNC routers, the emission value at the working place is:
a; in idle operation 59.6 dB (A)
b; in operation 72.9 dB (A)
The measurements were obtained on a machine with closed safety enclosure without noise reduction canopy at a spindle speed
of 27000 rpm.
Tools used: Hard metal trimmer 8mm, two flute, cutter length 25mm
Material trimmed: 5mm ABS
Measurement tolerance for all values 4 dB (A).
The values stated are emission values and do not automatically guarantee safe working areas. Although there is a correlation
between emission and immission levels it cannot be deduced with certainty whether additional safety measures are necessary or
not. The factors that can affect the immission level at the working area include the duration of the influences, the particular
conditions of the working room, other sources of noise, e.g. the number of machines and other events nearby. The admissible
immission levels may also vary from country to country. This information is intended to enable the user to better assess the
hazards and risks involved.
Measurement conditions:
prEN 31202 for all operating area related emission values
prEN 23746 for the noise output level.
The following additions according to TC142 have been observed to achieve the accuracy grade 3dB better
 The environment correction factors K2A or K3A are ≤ 4dB

 The difference between outside noise reduction level and noise reduction pressure level on every measure point is ≥ 6dB

 K3A is calculated according to appendix A, prEN 31204

 A square hollow area with 9 measurement points will be used in distance to the reference area (and ISO DIS 7960,
section 0 - 4)

1.7.1.2 Cutting with ultrasonic-knife

Measurement of the emission values in the supersonic frequency band:

Measurement value: For the emission value LLINmax = 99 dB
Assessment: The maximum linear emission value should be kept as low as possible. The maximum allowed value is L LINmax =
110 dB.
For the emission value LPA = 75 dB (A).

1.8 Designed application of the machine

1.8.1 Machines with cutting-spindles
 The machine has been designed for trimming of plastics, light metals as well as combinations of the afore- mentioned
materials.

 Only milling cutters up to a diameter of 10mm (for geiss spindle) and a length of 80mm should be used (see „safety
instructions“ section 1.9).

 Loading tables (shuttle, rotary and sliding tables) are used for loading and unloading only.

1.8.2 Machines with ultrasonic knife

 This machine equipment was only developed for the trimming of thin plastic material.

1.8.3 Prohibition of misuse

Any application beyond the designated use of the machine has to be discussed with the machine manufacturer as this would
invalidate the EC declaration of conformity. GEISS AG will not be liable for any resulting damage and the risk is borne by the
user.
The intended use is based on the compliance with the instructions, regulations and user manual guidelines.
Only original spare parts from the manufacturer, recommended reseller or approved spare parts are to be used.
On machines with driven tables (shuttle, rotary or sliding tables), these table are solely intended for loading and unloading of the
tools, the riding on the tables is strictly prohibited.
It has to be pointed out especially that the machine has to be equipped with extraction system if material are processed which
produce harmful dusts or vapours. This does also apply to wood and fibre reinforced thermoplastics.

When processing wood, the following extraction conditions have to be observed:

 Equipment for catching and extracting dust and swarf has to be fitted and must be suitable for the purpose.

 If flexible plastic hoses are used, they have to be highly flame retardant

 Machine with total enclosure have to be fitted with two extraction funnels diam. 300mm. The extraction pressure loss would
be: Pstat = 700 Pa at v = 20 m/s.

1.9.2 Other risks

All our machines are checked under the Low Voltage Directive 2006/95/EG relating to DIN EN 60204-1. This
examination is from the end customer to repeat each year!

We would like to point out that the machine has been tested only as to the mechanical and electrical safety and has
been equipped to in this respect accordingly.
Testing has not been done in respect of dust safety of the machine during trimming of material which produce
harmful dusts. A separate test is required in this respect.
Especially, when the machine does not have noise reduction canopy or a total enclosure, emission of dust and noise
will arise.
When the machine is switched on, it is strictly forbidden to climb into the machine. DANGER OF LIFE !

Machines with Sinumerik 840D SL and Safety Integrated:

These machines are equipped with the type-approved safety function Safety Integrated. In set-up mode, the safe
speed and the stoppage of the machine are constantly monitored. Though this is the safest monitoring system in
accordance with current standards, it cannot be excluded that in the event of error the axes will accelerate to a speed
of 4m/min, then spin off and only come to a halt after a slowing-down path of 9mm.
The operating personnel must be warned of that potential danger.

2.3 Data transfer

The 840DI control provides 3 ways of data transfer

2.3.1 Floppy disk drive

A floppy disk drive can be connected to the PCU50 as standard. This alternative is not listed as an option since there
is not enough space in the operating panel of the 840Di.
The USB floppy disk drive must be a floppy disk drive by Siemens with the MLFB number: 6FC5235-0AA05-1AA1.
A commercially available USB floppy disk drive will not work!

2.3.2 Network
The control can be integrated into a company network with TCP/IP protocol. The direct network linkage via crosslink
cable between control and an external PC is also possible.

2.3.3 V24 (COM1 or COM2 (Serial interface))

The data exchange between the PCU50 and an external PC can also be established with a serial cable. To this end
the selected interfaces (COM1 or COM2) have to be configured accordingly:
- Protocol: RTS/CTS
- Transfer: normal
- Parity: even
- Stop bit: 2
- Data bits: 7
- Transfer rate: 9600
- Archive format: Perforated tape with CR+LF
The configuration of the interface of the PCU50 needs only to be done in the control. The interface data of the
system software need not be modified.

2.4 Functional description of tool change station

2.4.1 Requirements
Before loading or unloading can be started, it has to be sure, that the axis can be moved free of any collision
between the magazine and the front doors.

2.4.2 Loading magazine

Loading a magazine the NC-Program „WKZ_MAGAZIN_BELADEN“ has to be selected and started. The machine will
unload the actual tool into the magazine. The spindle will be moved into the tool change position close to the front
door. If there is no tool in spindle, the move close to front door will be done immediately.
Now the new tool can be inserted in the spindle. In window “Tool change” (EASYMask) the station number has to be
entered. After that the program has to be started again.
This process can be repeated as often as free stations are available.

Fig.1: EASYMask window “Tool change”

2.4.3 Unloading magazine

Unloading a magazine the NC-Program “WKZ_MAGAZIN_ENTLADEN” has to be selected and started. The machine
asks now for the station number. If the selected station number is the same as from the actual tool, the spindle will
be moved into the tool change position close to front door. If the station numbers are different, first the actual tool will
be stored into the magazine. Afterwards the selected tool will be taken and moved into the tool change position.
This process can be repeated as often as tools are in the magazine.

2.4.4 Programming
There are 12 tool stations available. Each tool has to be linked to 1 station.
In user data (Parameter/user data/MGUD) or in the EASYMask the last changed station will be displayed. It means, if
the tool will be changed manually, the station number has to be changed in the program.
ATTENTION! Please be aware, the above mentioned requirements have to be fulfilled.
Changing a tool via program always the station number of the tool has to be programmed. The tool change will be
started with the selection of WKZ1 to WKZ12. Afterwards the related tool number (T…) and tool offset number (D…)
have to be programmed.

2.4.4.1 example
N105 G0 Z___ Z-Position in top of part
N110 WKZ5 Tool of Station 5 will be taken

For the machine axes (ball screws and linear guides) a maximum axis path is defined in machine data.
When reaching one of the preset values, an error message appears on the screen
For ex. 510304 Grease ball screws of X, Y, Z axes or
510305 Grease linear guides of X, Y, Z axes.

All greasing points of the ball screws or linear guides must be greased now.
The error message must be acknowledged as follows, otherwise a new NC start will be blocked:

GEISS Path

 or according to error message 

ATTENTION:
It is nevertheless necessary to check weekly whether all ball screws and guides are sufficiently greased and do not run dry.
Determined types of dust, which during processing can develop, unforeseeable impurities cause and to require despite
exhausts, which is cleaned more frequently the machine and which the maximum distances for the way lubrication are reduced.
With cleaning fibers and types of dust must be sucked off. Never types of dust with compressed air may be blown off, since
thereby particles can arrive into the lubrication fittings.

WARNING:
 The oil of the vacuum pump of the machine and the air filter have to be checked on regular basis for level and dirt.
For oil change of vacuum pump, please see Busch operating instruction (chapter 5.3).

 The machine should not be cleaned with compressed air as swarf and dust can be blown into the bearings or
operators may be placed in danger.

 We recommend very strongly to extract swarf via vacuum and brush off with a small brush or broom.

 All painted areas or machine parts are to be treated exclusively with low alkaline (pH <9,5), neutral or mild
cleaning mediums only. Cleaning with strong alkaline cleaning solutions or mixtures are not allowed and can
cause damage to paint.

 For machines with forward driven tables, it is imperative to remove or brush away the swarf, otherwise the linear
module seals will be destroyed. The swarf must not be blown off with compressed air!

Only for trimming spindles with tool changer: To ensure proper operation of the tool changer and to avoid fit rust on the tool
tapers and in the spindle taper bore, prior to each shift wipe the tool tapers and oil them slightly. The spindle taper bore must be
cleaned and oiled once per shift.

3.1.1 Lubricant
As a lubricant we recommend DYNALUB 510 by the company Bosch Rexroth AG.
This can be purchased from GEISS AG (Art.No. A06.000292).
For further data please refer to the data sheet in chapter 7.

3.2 Maintenance of vacuum pump

For all maintenance jobs the vacuum pump must be switched off and is to be secured against accidental
switching on.

1. Check oil level at least once daily.

2. Refill oil if the oil level drops below the mark on the oil sight glass.
Keep refilling oil until oil level has reached the MAX level mark on the oil sight glass.

3. Oil change and oil filter change

First oil change to be performed after 100 operating hours.
Subsequent oil change intervals depend on operating conditions. Oil change is necessary after 500 to
2000 operating hours, but at least one every six months.
If much dirt has accumulated it may be necessary to change oil already earlier. To change oil, switch off
the pump still warm from operation and vent to atmospheric pressure. Drain the old oil through the oil
drain plug. When the oil flow decreases, close plug and run pump again for some seconds. Retighten oil
drain plug, remove oil filter and replace by a new one. Fill in new oil through the oil filler plug.
For oil quantity see nameplate on vacuum pump.
Used oil and oil filter must be disposed of in accordance with regulations in force.

4. Oil grades
Use oils to DIN 51506, lubricant oil group VC.
We recommend original Busch oils of series VM which conforms to this standard.
5. Check and change of air de-oiling element
The air de-oiling element can best be checked with a filter resistance gauge which is screwed into the
bore of the oil filler plug. When a filter resistance of > 0,6 bar (excess pressure) is displayed, the air de-
oiling element must be replaced.
Increased current consumption of the drive motor may also be due to clogged air de-oiling element.
The air de-oiling element must be replaced if oil mist escapes from the separator, it is necessary to
replace the air de-oiling element. When the new air de-oiling element is installed, also use a new seal to
seal the exhaust air cap.
6. Cleaning of gas ballast valve
If visible dirt has accumulated on the gas ballast valve, unscrew and clean the sintered body. Then blow
through with compressed air.
7. Cleaning of suction flange
To clean the strainer in the suction flange, loosen the four lock screws and remove suction flange. Use
compressed air to blow through the strainer.
8. Cleaning of fan shells
Regularly check the two fan shells for dirt. Dirty fan shells prevent cooling air inlet and may cause
overheating of the vacuum pump

3.3 Maintenance of water filter

The water filter is installed at the rear right-hand side of the machine.
It has to be checked monthly for dirt and cleaned if necessary.

3.4 Maintenance of the rollers of the door sliding rails

The rollers of the top and bottom door sliding rails must be greased every six months. The suitable grease is general
bearing grease for medium loads (lithium base grease).

3.8 Replacing the Twin Fan/Battery Module of the NCU

3.8.1 Use

Function of the Twin Fan/Battery Module

The twin fan/battery module provides the following functions:

● Cooling of the CPU by two redundant fans
● Buffering of the SRAM when SuperCap is not sufficient

The control unit monitors the inner temperature and funtion of the fan. Fan errors are displayed and can be read via
the diagnostic buffer.
● Fan warning: When one of the two fans no longer rotates.
● Fan error: When no fans rotate.
Should the software not react within approximately 1 minute the components will automatically disable and the error
highlighted by the red SF LED.

Fan

Should the free convector for the cooling of the NCU 710.2 / 720.2 / 730.1 / 730.2 not be sufficient, the spare fans
that are integrated in the twin fan/battery module can be activated if necessary:
● After switching on the NCU the fan runs for a short time (function test) and then switches itself off.
● A temperature sensor on the NCU activates the fan when the air temperature exceeds approximately 40 °C.
● When the air temperature supply sinks to below approximately 35 °C the fan will be deactivated.
● When the fan is in use its function is monitored. In an error situation (blockage or rotation too low) a message will
be displayed.

On the following control units the fans run constantly:

NCU 710.1, NCU 720.1/.2 PN and NCU 730.2 PN

ATTENTION
The control unit cannot be used without the fan, i.e. the control unit cannot function without a working twin fan/battery
module.

Battery

A 3 V Lithium battery can be used in the twin fan/battery module. The battery is prefabricated with an approximately
4 cm long cable and a plug. The fitting plug is mounted on a small printed circuit board for the connection to the twin
fan/battery module.

Please note
Please recyle used batteries in specially provided collection points on site so that they can be recycled or removed as
special refuse.

ATTENTION
The buffer time of an operational battery is a minimum of 3 years. In excess of this buffer time you run the risk of
data loss.

3.10 Explanation of advanced brake functionality

Operation:

Should an error be identified during the brake test which identifies that the brake of the axis no longer works (error
code of FB 11), then the PLC will prevent a further test stop. The error message screen will pop up and the Easy
Mask Picture in which the error is displayed, can be brought to the forefront.

You can now open the doors if the control is switched on and the position of the axis is below the minus 2 safe cam.
The axis can be chocked to enable checking the brake (eg. with wooden blocks or similar)

The error can be acknowledged with the manufacturers password set (SUNRISE).

Easy-Mask Brake OK Easy-Mask Brake not OK

!!!WARNING!!!
Should you operate the emergency stop before the axis touches down, the doors can open and the axis
could drop. (Mechanical locking is currentless open/electrical doors without control)

The acknowledgement should only be confirmed after inspection of the brake.

Should acknowledgement be confirmed before opening the doors, then the door can no longer be opened and a new
test stop will be started.

3.10.1 Emergency Procedures

In the event of an emergency, release the brake on the valve of the relevant axis by turning the little red knob on the
valve onto position 1, using a screwdriver.

The axis can now be moved by hand.

WARNING: Return the rotary knob back to position 0 otherwise the brake will not function!

4.1.4 Cutter list GEISS

The offered cutters are of hard metal type K10.
These single and two fluted cutters are best suited for processing of most thermo plastics due to their cutting
geometry. Left cutting cutters are not required for GEISS trimming machines as the turning direction of the spindle
can be changed in seconds via the program. Cutters with two flutes are running smoother particularly at higher
speeds. Single flute cutters are available particularly for softer materials such as PP and give better cutting edges.
For processing of fibre inforced materials (GFK, CFK ) we recommend hard metal cutters with diamond toothed or
PKD cutters.
