audiovisual experience combining NASA
satellite imagery of Earth, time-lapse nature
and cultural footage, and stirring live music

Inspired by astronauts who described the
life-changing effect of seeing the Earth from
space, director-composer Kenji Williams has
also created extensive residency and outreach
materials for universities, schools, and
planetariums.

BIRDS IN THE MOON
Chamber Opera
Written by composer Mark Grey with a libretto
by Júlia Canosa y Serra, the storyline for Birds
is loosely based on an eccentric theory by 17th
century scientist Charles Morton, who hypothesized
that birds migrate to the moon.

With a fantastical story that draws parallels to
immigration, migrants, and human rights, Birds in
the Moon is a traveling chamber opera staged in
a mobile state of the art, self-contained, shipping
container -- a theatrical magic moving box. A work
that can be staged in theaters, parking lots, college

premiere at Cal Performances will feature mezzo-
soprano Sasha Cooke.

Daniel Ho’s simple philosophy of presenting
music with sincerity and artistry encompasses
six consecutive GRAMMY Awards, number-one

albums on Billboard.

A Honolulu native, Daniel started music lessons
at an early age and spent his teenage years
orchestrating big band arrangements. At the
Grove School of Music in Los Angeles, he
excelled in composition and film scoring.

Ho performs original songs in English and
Hawaiian that feature his versatility on ukulele,

A brilliant young star of the “timple”, Germán
López touches audiences with original instrumental
music from the Canary Islands. His music brings
together Spanish flamenco, West African rhythmic
structures, and a modern approach to island music.

Even at the ripe age of ten years he was
collaborating with legendary timple master José
Antonio Ramos. Now, López performs globally, has
collaborated with symphony orchestras, and has
been awarded public prizes by the government of
the Canary Islands on several occasions.

Niño de Elche is a cantaor, a singer of flamenco,
but not as we know it. He is a multi-disciplinary
artist who combines flamenco singing and toque
with performance art, poetry, improvisation,
minimalism, singer-songwriting, rock and
electronics. He has received the “Album of the
Year” award by the Spanish National Press
Association for Voces del Extremo. His latest
album, Antología del Cante Flamenco Heterodoxo,
was released earlier this year.

Taiwanese-American Steven Lin is an engaging

Award at the 2013 Van Cliburn International
Piano Competition.

Lin’s artistry was clear from an early age when
