If you unfold the dachshund you see a pattern of points, lines and angles formed by the folds in the paper.

Designed by John Montroll

Origami or the art of paper folding originally came from China and later appeared in Japan. When paper was first being made in China, only the ladies of the royal court had the paper to do origami! Origami is connected to the part of mathematics called geometry or the study of points, lines, angles, surfaces, and solids. Look at the picture above and you see lots of points, lines and angles. When you fold origami you also create lots of surfaces. Fold a square piece of paper in half diagonally or from one tip to the opposite tip and you create two triangle shapes. This is how the dachshund starts out.
