Course Description
How is technology used to solve business problems and communicate solutions? Business and Technology
is designed to prepare students with the knowledge and skills to be an asset to the collaborative, global,
and innovative business world of today and tomorrow. Mastery use of spreadsheets and the ability to
apply leadership skills to make informed business decisions will be a highlight of this course for students.
Publishing industry appropriate documents to model effective communication and leadership will be
demonstrated through project based learning. Students will use spreadsheet and database software to
manage data while analyzing, organizing and sharing data through visually appealing presentation.

Various forms of technologies will be used to expose students to resources, software, and applications of
business practices. Professional communication skills and practices, problem-solving, ethical and legal
issues, and the impact of effective presentation skills are enhanced in this course to prepare students to be
college and career ready. Employability skills are integrated into activities, tasks, and projects throughout
the course standards to demonstrate the skills required by business and industry. Competencies in the co-
curricular student organization, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), are integral components of
the employability skills standard for this course.

Tips for Success in Business and Technology:

Your attendance directly affects your grade. If you are in ISS, suspended, or have unexcused absences, it is a chance that your
grade will not be as high as you would like it to be. IT IS NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND YOU FOR MAKE UP
WORK!!!! Any time that you are absent, you should check Schoology or stay after school on Thursdays
Helpful tips:
 Keep all handouts!! NEVER throw away instructions on how to do something. You’ll need it again.
 Keep track of all your work. You must have a folder or binder for this class. Punch holes in your hard
copy assignments and keep all your work as you receive it.
 Be patient! Computers are man-made machines—sometimes they will tear up, break down or quit
working at the worst possible time. SAVE work frequently to avoid major problems. Learning proper
file management will determine if you are turning in the correct assignment. If you need help learning
how to save files, see me ASAP!
 All students will take the final exam. NO EXCEPTIONS. Students may not leave class the first or last
20 minutes of class. For example, if class starts at 10:00, a student may not leave class until 10:20.
If the class ends at 11:00, a student may not leave class later than 10:40.
