WHAT IS 1909?
1909 is a classic in-frame kitchen with a smooth painted finish. The collection is presented around two core door styles –
a classic Shaker, which can be customised with two intricate beading options, and a more contemporary slab door style.
Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, 1909 offers a huge array of feature product and accessories enabling you to
create distinctly different looks for your customers.
DOOR CONSTRUCTION
In-frame Shaker
24mm thick solid alder frame with paper faced MDF centre
panel. Our Shaker door can be specified with or without
butt hinges and is available in two beading options:- i)
Quarter round and ii) Half pencil and scalloped (see page
16). See pages 34 to 37 for bespoke size information.
In-frame Slab
22mm thick solid alder frame with paper faced MDF door.
This door can be specified with conventional hinges only.

Important Note: 1909 is constructed from a solid alder

The in-frame system
The in-frame concept uses a system of prefabricated frames on every '4787:<475); 99;-5<78:
kitchen unit. In most cases the frame is fixed to the face of the unit,
with the door and drawer front(s) inset within the frame’s aperture(s).
There may be occassions when a combination door set is required, E65<FGA8FBD6BFG9BA=F
which allows the frame to open with the door. Combination doors
are for use with integrated appliances and some pull-out accessories.

The frames are designed for use on conventional 9BE>D
18mm thick cabinets.
The frame on 1909 is oversized at the bottom by 50mm to act as a

lighting pelmet and to give the moulded plinth something to attach to.
As on standard in-frame doors, the top of the bottom rail sits flush
with the base of the cabinet. This gives easy access to the cabinet for EEB
cleaning and allows certain accessories to be fitted.

kitchen unit sizes and functions. This is demonstrated on the A3

1909 Butt hinges are solid brass, plated and supplied in
three different finishes - chrome, pewter and bright nickel.

The hinges fit into a rebate that is premachined (when

requested) and has a 3mm radius to the top and bottom of

the (80x20x1.9mm) rebate. Both the door and frame are

rebated. Individual doors are notched to match each frame R3

correct frame rebate. The hinge is then screwed into place 1.9
using matching screws supplied. Ensure you pilot drill for

Drawer Systems
Dovetailed drawer boxes
Dovetailed solid wooden drawer boxes are available in a range of widths and 2 heights
to suit the in-frame system (see section 5 of the directory). Mount the drawer runners
(DYNAPRO) on 25mm spacers (which come with the drawer boxes) to clear the width
of the frame at each side. Use countersunk screws (C61X1/2) to fix spacers to
cabinets, the spacers will sit flush with the front edge of the cabinet. Euro screws
(ESP5X11) can be used to fix the runners to spacers, fourth hole on runner to first
hole on spacer (see drawing below). When fitting the runner to the drawer box please refer
to the instructions supplied with the runners.

Corner door set

Corner door sets are available for both base corner door scenarios (770mm) and two wall corner scenarios
(770mm & 950mm). The corner doors can be notched and hinged using butt hinges (please refer to the hinge
section for 770mm door hinge positions on the frame side only. We recommend a conventional corner door
hinge in the centre for improved adjustment and gapping) and can be used with a Kesseböhmer 34 Carousel.
Conventional hinges can also be used on the corner door sets.

The Pantry 4 Door Set 1210x1200, available in 1909 In-Frame Slab only, is supplied as a set and is recommened for

Storage Solutions
Many of the Kesseböhmer storage solutions for standard modular

kitchens can also be used with an in-frame system. The fitting of some
products will need to be modified, usually if they are side mounted, in
which case packers need to be used (to avoid any of the product clashing with
the door frame). Some products require a wider door / cabinet (compared to
what is generally used on a standard system). For those products that are not
suitable for use with in-frame doors where the frame is attached to the
cabinet, a combination door can be used.

300mm and 400mm base pullouts can be used with DS770x350 and
DS770x450 door sets where the frame will remained fixed to the
cabinet (See image b).

combination door for a 600mm cabinet (NOTE: if using moulded
plinth, a combination door with separate bottom rail is required).
If using a 500mm cabinet, a bespoke combination door should be used.

Kesseböhmer
Larders
1909 has a full range of medium height larder doors, designed to be used with
Kesseböhmer pull-out larders. The sizes available are: 350x2020mm,
450x2020mm, 550x2020mm and 650x2020mm. This allows standard larder
frames to be used in the in-frame situation.
Therefore, 300mm larder would use a (350mm wide door), 400mm larder would
use a (450mm wide door) & 500mm (550mm wide door).

1909 Top Tips
- 1909 is an ex-stock proposition and is not a fully bespoke kitchen

range (which you should bear in mind when designing). The matrix
of product available is similar to other PWS in-frame ranges.
- Bespoke sizes are available to order should they be required, but
shouldn’t be the starting point of the design
- The frame is designed to fit the overall width of your cabinets. It is
therefore important that cabinets are made exact to size, as a build
up of oversize and/or undersize tolerances may cause problems.
- Please note all frames are oversized by 50mm in height. Ensure the
top edge of the bottom rail sits flush with the top of the base panel
in the cabinet.
- When fixing drawer fronts to dovetail drawers, in addition to the
drawer clip screw fixing we also recommend additional screw fixing
through the upper part of the drawer box into the drawer front.
Alternatively, use longer fixing bolts on the handle that will pass
through the drawer box and drawer front.
- Standard curved plinths must always be fitted prior to fixing the
door frame. However, moulded plinth curved profiles must be fitted
after fixing the door frame as they attach to the frame.
- Combination doors are used with integrated appliances and various
internal storage solutions. These are fixed using standard overlay
hinges where applicable.
- When trimmers are cut to size it is recommended that the cut edge
is refinished. Touch up kits are available for all 1909 colours.
- Due to the large size of the cornice, a mitre cut cannot be made
using a flip saw.
- Please note 150mm Kesseböhmer pull outs can’t be used with
moulded plinths. A bespoke option is available.
- Please note when using the under worktop bead, instances where a
dresser, which sits on top of the worktop, meets a full height larder
door set are not possible due to the increase in height given by the
under worktop bead.
- End panels decor end panels and other accessories must be cut to
sit flush with the bottom of the frame, when using moulded plinth.
- Not all door combinations, shown in the matrix, can be used with
moulded plinth. Only combination doors with a separate bottom
rail are compatible with moulded plinth (as indicated with green ticks
on door matrix).
- Whilst doors should be of consistent overall appearance, slight
variations in finish from one door to the next are characteristic in
a process which features a significant element of hand manufacture.
Such variations should not be visible however when viewed from
a distance of one metre under normal lighting.
- 1909 is constructed from a solid alder frame with flush joints.
1909 doors, in common with all other timber product, are subject
to movement with changes in moisture level in the environment.
This movement may be expressed in the form of a hairline crack
(also known as ‘whisper joints’) in the paint surface along the line
of the joints. This is a natural characteristic of smooth painted
timber furniture and does not represent a product fault.
- As far as is practically possible, 1909 furniture should be
handled considerately to avoid chipping and bruising.
To touch up small defects, spray a small quantity of paint into
the cap of the spray paint and use a small artists brush to touch
in chip or pin holes.
