Lesson 2: Speech to Persuade.

-Persuasion is the process of altering or reinforcing attitudes, beliefs, values, or


behavior. Although knowing your listener’s attitudes, beliefs, and values can help you write any
message, these three variables when explaining psychological audience analysis-are especially
necessary to include when drafting and presenting a persuasive message.

-It explains that a persuasion is a speech on how do you speak to other people by your
beliefs, values and behavior. It includes on how you respect people on their beliefs and their
attitudes.

-Your attitudes exhibit our likes and dislikes. Technically speaking, a mental outlook is a
learned choice to reply positively or negatively toward something.

-So by your attitude it determines your personality as a person. It allows people to give
comments on your attitude whether is it bad or not.

-A persuasive speech could also modify or strengthen a belief. A belief is what you
understand to be true or false. If you believe in something, you are convinced that it exists or is
true. If you believe in God, you have formed your sense of what is realistic and unrealistic to
determine the existence of God.

-So it says that once you are true to the message you are saying it says that you are just
being truthful and you are real. Instead when you believe in God, you have this so called the
sense of realistic and unrealistic when you deny the existence of God.

-A persuasive speech could also see, to change or reinforce a value. A value is a lasting
concept or desirable, and you tend to think of its opposite or its absence as bad or wrong. If you
do not value something, you do not care about it. Values form the basis of your life goals and
the driving force behind your behavior.

-It means that you need to be respectful and be polite to the person you are talking to
and it may have a chance to rate you if you respect it or not. If its bad or good.

-Adapting the content of your persuasive speech will do much in the success of your
talk. Trying to know the listener’s values can help you attune your analysis of them and adapt
the content of your speech to those values.
-So it explains that you need to understand more of the persons value, belief, and
attitude base on how he beliefs in everything. You need to respect it so that you may speak with
him/her too confidently.

-Persuasive messages often attempt to do more than change of reinforce attitudes,


beliefs, or values-they may attempt to change the behavior.

-So it says that you don’t need to be offend them by their attitude or things that the
audience may feel uncomfortable.

-Cognitive dissonance.

-It tells that we need to know the audience personal problems or issues that is
inconsistent of its current beliefs.

Hierarchy of needs.

-So it needs some advice, lessons, and more self-esteem so that the person can gain
more motivation that he/she needs.

-Positive motivation

-It gains positive thinking that the audience or person may sound confident and may be
more motivated in his/her daily time

-Negative motivation

-The act of losing hope and lack of discomfort to the person that it feels no one can help
its losing personal problems.

Problem solution.

-Giving a solution to the problem that the person is holding.

Refutation.

-A person who is proving wrong or not true about it.

Cause-and-effect.

-Having the Cause of the result and effect of the result that is happening.
-Motivated Sequence.

-We need to have more action and response to the persons problem and to have its
motivation speech.

-So there are three types of propositions: prepositions of fact, propositions of value, and
propositions of policy.

-A PROPOSITION OF FACT targets to prove the truthfulness or falsity of something or


whether something really happened or not.

-So it states the truthfulness and the real news about something that is being issued. It is
being focused on something that is being really important.

-PROPOSITION OF VALUE:

-An assertion of value is a statemen that calls for the audience to evaluate the
worthiness or relevance of something. Values, as you recall, are lasting ideas of good and bad,
right and wrong.

-It means that you need to seek its values and beliefs to that person so that we may
understand them mostly.

-PROPOSITION OF POLICY

-Supports a specific action-changing a policy, procedure, and behavior. Notice the


statement’s manner of presentation; the word SHOULD is used.

-So it states the meaning or that kinds of policy and the word SHOULD is being
pronounced.

-SPEECH TO ENTERTAIN:

-Usually happens in an after-dinner situation, or at a time when the audience does not
expect to be asked to think very hard or to take a very serious action.

-So it means that you are being quickly questioned by the person and you are at the time
that you have nothing to say to it.

-Purposes and Challenges of the Speech to Entertain.


-The overarching purpose of the speech to entertain is to help listeners enjoy
themselves.

- The purpose of this is to give lifetime enjoyment that creates funny things and to have
happy moments with that person.

-Enjoyment Versus Humor.

-Creating enjoyment, it should be pointed out, does not always mean being funny. In
fact, most successful speeches to entertain will probably include a lot of informative material,
they will stick to have a moral at the end.

-But only those speeches that aim primarily at enjoyment can be successful when the
overarching result is enjoyment.

-So it explains here the Enjoyment can be more useful when we are entertaining a
person but still we need to have a sense of morality so that the person may not sound that
awkward or kina uncomfortable. The person still needs the attitude of respect and it needs the
beliefs when having a speech and still it depends.

-Preparing and Presenting the Speech to Entertain.

-If you have the talent, interest, and opportunity to develop and deliver a speech to
entertain, here are some tips to keep in minds.

-Aim to stimulate enjoyment in your audience.

-As with all speeches, audience analysis is essential. You may also gesture, move, and
use your voice and other aspect of your delivery to reinforce listeners enjoyment of your
presentation.

-So you may entertain your speech by using funny voice or giving some crazy stuffs that
the person may look it funny or amused.

-Make your presentation brief.

-The speech to entertain is usually best received if it is not too long and drawn out. Build
your speech flexibility so that you can add more humorous stories.
-So it explains that you need to be more briefly about what will you say to the person.
For the person may not feel confused. You need to be more productive on how will you deliver
it.

-Provide a memorable message.

-Thus the listener who is enjoying himself or herself may also be learning and growing
(Andrews et al, 1999).

-So we need to have a good memory message for the person you are talking to. Or give
him/her some advice or quotes that definitely he/she will never forget it.

-Basic Parts of a Speech to Entertain:

-Introduction.

-Your task as a speaker in the speech to entertain is to start it by stimulating the


audience’s attention, setting the mood, and creating the main point. Start with a rhetorical
question, which is often a good technique to start a speech.

-So you need to have the speakers attention and mood. Mostly you may start it by
saying “hi” or “how are you today?”. But still it depends on the speaker on how he/she will create
it

-Body

-Always remember that the kind of audience you have, the occasion and your speaking
skill as well as limitations when you plan your speech. A single, long narrative is a popular
device in entertaining.

-So in the body you may start now the different kinds of topic on how the audience feel
about itself that may conclude on problems and many more.

-Conclusion.

-The conclusion is usually very short and maintains to carry the robust and joyful mood
that was maintained throughout the speech.

-So for the conclusion is that you will bring the person to some joyful and happy mood
for the person feels some comfort and loving care.
