AD SIZES
Submit ads exactly to size. Refer to the ad size chart. Ad sizes must be precise to ensure proper reproduction. Any ad sent in the wrong size will be reformatted to fit your ad space. This may lead to an error in the reproduction of the ad. CMNM is not responsible for these errors. settings should read, All Pages, Level 2, CMYK, TIFF, Subset, ASCII, no bleeds. In Advanced settings, settings should read All, OPI - nothing checked, High Resolution. 2. Open Acrobat Distiller. Set PDF Settings to PDF/X-1a 3. Drag the eps file onto Acrobat Distiller and it will create a PDF for you. If you do not have Acrobat Distiller, or must export directly out of InDesign for any other reason we are usually able to re-save your PDF with our settings. However, certain things (e.g. some uses of transparencies) will require us to flatten your ads to ensure they will still run properly. This will automatically rasterize any text, and thus may lower the quality.

A WORD ABOUT NEWSPAPER PRINT
Standard CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black), color printing on newsprint may vary from color ad proofs viewed on a computer monitor or office color printer. Please allow for a 20 dot gain. Please speak with your account manager if you have questions.

COLOR
Use only CMYK for color images placed in the ad and Grayscale for black & white. Use 1-color black for black backgrounds and text, 4-color black does not reproduce well in newsprint. RGB and Spot color will be converted to four-color process.

IMAGE SIZES
Photos should be saved at no less than 200dpi for newsprint, 300dpi for glossy publications.

SAVING AN AD AS A PDF OUT OF ILLUSTRATOR
Follow the same instructions as used for InDesign.

SAVING AN AD AS A PDF OUT OF PHOTOSHOP
1. Save the ad out of Photoshop as a PDF. Be sure to include layers, or your text will be flattened and rasterized. After you click save a box will pop up asking about your PDF settings. At the top where it says Adobe PDF Presets, select the PDF/X-1a.

FILE TYPES
Preferred file submission is PDF. We do not alter PDFs we receive. If you would like us to make changes to your ad you will need to send a completely packaged working file that meets the standards listed below for fonts. The types of working files we accept are InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. We cannot accept Quark documents, Microsoft Publisher, Adobe Page Maker or CorelDRAW files. The preferred file type for photos is tiff with LZW compression, however we can also accept jpg, eps, and psd files. The preferred file type for vector artwork saved out of Illustrator is eps with all fonts outlined.

SAVING AN AD FOR TECNAVIA
Tecnavia is the program which allows us to post our newspapers online exactly as they appear in print, including the ads. If ads are saved appropriately, it will also link the advertisements with an advertiser’s website or email address.

Website Links
1. When building the ad you must include “www” in front of the web address (i.e. www.vaildaily.com rather than vaildaily.com). If your web address does not have “www” at the beginning, then include the “http://”

Email Links

FONTS
Please send the PDF of your ad with all of the fonts completely embedded. Illustrator files need all fonts converted to outlines. If you wish to send us a working file (indd, psd, ai), you will need to send both screen fonts and printer fonts. Please use OpenType fonts and avoid TrueType. No PC Fonts. You can also select fonts from our font list. If you do not have a copy of the company’s font list, send a request to joneill@cmnm.org.

1. Write your email using the “@” symbol (i.e. joneill@cmnm.org). Flattening ads in Photoshop and creating outlines on text in Indesign, Illustrator or Quark will cause your ads to appear without links online.

AD SUBMISSIONS
We gladly accept camera-ready digital files through several mediums. 1. Email. File can be sent to your local advertising representative. File size should not exceed 12MB. For larger files please use our FTP. 2. FTP . Your rep can give the address and password. We can also access your FTP sites if you provide us with the address, user name, password and file name. 3. CD-Rom.
