Induction Motor

## NAME : MOHAMED SAAD AK

CLASS : -B-
FOURTH STAGE
YEAR:2015-2016

College Of Engineering
Electrical Department
Object : To find the equivalent Cct. Parameters of a
Three phase induction motor,Also ; to find
The load cks of the machine .

Procedure :
1- We connected the Simulink circuit (1) as shown
in the next paper , after knowing the name plate
data of the machine under test :

## NAME PLATE DATA

3-Ø I.M , 5 HP
460V , 60HZ
NO. OF POLES =4
N=1750 rpm.
2- Using the DC test for induction motor (fig.1) we
gained :

Vdc /V Idc/A R /Ω
11.77 5.412 2.1747

## 3- We connected the cct. Shown in (fig.2) to find

the no load cks :
V/v Ia/A Ia/A Ic/A P/w Q/var Wm
267.4 3.374 3.507 3.211 262.2 881.2 0.9989

## 4- We made the Blocked Rotor test : we applied a

reduced voltage to reach the rated current at
6.5A.

## V/v Ia/A Ib/A Ic/A P/w Q/var

32.13 6.5 6.5 6.24 111.6 184.2

## 5- From the no load and blocked rotor test , we

were able to calculate the equivalent cct
parameters as shown below :
N.L. test :
𝐼𝑎+𝐼𝑏+𝐼𝑐
IØ = =3.364 A
3
VØ = 267.4 v & P=262.2 w
𝑉𝑄
Thus , 𝑍𝑛𝑙 = = 77.94Ω
𝐼𝑄

𝑃𝑟 = 3𝑃 − 3𝐼𝑄 2 𝑅𝑑𝑐
= 3(262.2) − 3(3.364)2 (2.1748)
𝑃𝑟 = 712.76 𝑤.

## From B.R. test :

V=31.13V , IØ=3.413 A & P=111.6W , Q=184.2 var.
𝑉 31.13
𝑍𝑏𝑟 = = = 9.12Ω .
𝐼 3.413
𝑃
𝑅𝑏𝑟 = 2 = 9.58Ω
𝐼
𝑋𝑏𝑟 = 2.9Ω
𝑋1 = 𝑋2 = 0.5𝑋𝑏𝑟 = 1.4Ω
𝑋𝑚 = 𝑍𝑛𝑙 − 𝑋1 = 76.54Ω
(𝑅𝑏 − 𝑅𝑑𝑐)(𝑋2 + 𝑋𝑀)
𝑅2 = = 7.545Ω
𝑋𝑀
Therefore, the equivalent circuit of the I.M can be drawn
as shown below :

6- Load test :
We varied the Tm with 0.25 values to load the
machine to 150% of full load and tabulated the
results as shown below :
Tm V/v Ia/A IB/A Ic/A P/w Q/var Wm
0.25 267.7 3.71 3.715 3.575 491.4 888.7 0.9938

1.5 267 8.857 8.484 8.617 2172 1104 0.9658

RESULTS :
1- plot curves of speed , curve , slip , torque , stator
current , i/p power and p.f and £ all to o/p HP .

## 2- Plot torque VS slip

** observe graphical paper
3- determine from results obtained output HP,
torque , stator current , efficiency at rated
conditions ?
@ rated conditions :
Php =4.87 , T=20.3 N.m. , Is=6.29 A ,
eff. =86.7%

Discussion :
1- Estimate the maximum torque of the motor ?
3𝑉𝑄 2 1
𝑇𝑚 = ∗
2𝑊𝑠 𝑅1 + √𝑅12 + (𝑋1 + 𝑋2)2
𝑉𝑄 = 460/√3 =265.6 V
𝑅1 = 𝑅𝑑𝑐 = 2.17Ω
X1=X2=1.4Ω
2𝑝𝑖
𝑊𝑠 = ∗ 1800 = 188.5 𝑟𝑎𝑑/𝑠𝑒𝑐
60
Thus , Tmax =98.26 N.m.
2- Plot the speed torque cks curve ?
1 𝑉𝑄 2
𝑇𝑠𝑡 = ∗ 3𝑅2
𝑊𝑠 (𝑅1 + 𝑅2)2 + (𝑋1 + 𝑋2)2

Tst=82.86 N.m.

## We need to calculate the breakdown slip :

𝑅2
SB = 2 2
= 0.213
√𝑅1 +(𝑋1+𝑋2)
S=(ns-nr)/ns , nr=1416.6 rpm.

S=4.6%

conclusion ?

## From the results obtained it’s obvious that

when increasing the mechanical load the
efficiency is increased to rated conditions ,
after the rated conditions the curve began to
fall lightly ,

## The speed torque cks was like any induction

machine , the max. torque occurs when there’s
a
breakdown slip as shown in graphical paper .
