SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH FOR GRADE 7

Content Standard :

The learner demonstrates understanding of how the different text types during the Period of Apprenticeship
through employing various listening, viewing and reading strategies; using phrases, clauses, sentences, literal
and figurative language and non-verbal cues in oral communication serve as means of building a positive and
healthy relationships.
Performance Standard :

The learner creatively presents a summary of a formal essay/ informative article about building relationship.

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the session, the students will be able to :

A. identify the four (4) kinds of sentences according to purpose ;


B. realize the relevance of the sacrifice that Jesus Christ did for man through an
experiment ; and
D. use different kinds of sentences in writing an informative essay about building
relationships.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic : Kinds of Sentences According to Purpose

B. Materials : glass container, water, iodine (betadine solution), Hypochlorite


(bleach), slide deck, lcd monitor, laptop.

A. ACTIVITY

a. Motivation

The teacher relates the story of salvation to an experiment. She pours


water into a glass container then asks the students to put some drops of iodine
(betadine solution), and stir it. The water then turns black/brown. And to make it
clear again, the teacher pours the hypochlorite (bleach) into it while relating it to
the sacrifice that Jesus Christ did for man.

B. ANALYSIS

a. Presentation
The teacher lets the students watch the video clip “Are You a Good
Person?”

The teacher asks the following questions :

1. What is the message of the short video?


2. Do you think you are a good person like Mr.Nice Guy? ( Why?
Why Not?
3. What would you tell God if you were given a chance to talk to
him?
b. Discussion

The teacher presents a set of sentences from the short video (grouped
accordingly to their uses) and guides the students in analyzing each
sentence.

The teacher then introduces the different kinds of sentences according to


their purpose and allows the students to construct their own examples for
each kind..

Kinds of Sentences According to Purpose


Declarative –makes a statement about a fact or an idea and ends with a
period

Interrogative – asks a question and ends with a question mark


Imperative – gives a command or makes a request.
- Most imperative sentences end with a period
- A strong command ends with an exclamation point
Exclamatory – shows excitement or strong feeling and ends with an
exclamation point.
C. ABSTRACTION

a. Generalization

What are the four kinds of sentences according to purpose?

What is the purpose of each kind?

Give examples for each kind.

D. APPLICATION

GROUP ACTIVITY

Differentiated Tasks (The students are grouped according to their skills/interests)

Perform the task/s assigned to you and then the other groups shall identify the
different kinds of sentences that each group has used. (according to purpose)

Group 1 : The Singers

Create and perform a jingle about the qualities of a good person.

Group 2. The Actors/Actresses

Present a skit showing that some tourists are amazed by the


beautiful sceneries in the Philippines.

Group 3. The Illustrators

Make a poster to show how you would thank God for all the things that He
has done for us.

RUBRICS:

50 % - Ability to express ideas

IV. EVALUATION

Directions : Punctuate each of the following sentences with the appropriate end mark.
Then, on the line provided, classify each sentence according to its purpose. Write D
for Declarative, IN for Interrogative, IM for Imperative, and E for Exclamatory.
