Your challenge is to hand-draw a poster.

It should include:
A strong sense of design – Refer to Elements and Principles of Design.
A function of a poster
Full page composition – 65% Inked surface – 90% of Paper coverage
Considerations of a golden ratio layout
Precise Layout
Field ground reversal
Hand drawn/ designed borders
Hand drawn text
Include a minimal of three observational images…. Use of depth and full range value in
modeling.

Procedure

First thing due: Collection of visual research….photographs, sketched drawings, texture studies
will be collected before drawing is started.
Tracing is often used to finalize components to layout into work. That said, Tracing is
prohibited when it is NOT your own work/ photos. Inspiration should be footnoted, and
proportions of image must be changed to avoid plagiarism.
Compositional layout will be designed, sections of visual research will be assigned to areas
Mock up of drawing will be sketch or patched together.

Tracing of final version gets LIGHTLY laid out onto cardstock.

Final version is inked over light drawing.

Pencil marks are cleaned up after inking is complete

Poster may be cleaned up with paint. Mistakes are often reconfigured and incorporated into
work.

Pen and ink drawings are often reproduced resulting in a flawless version of the original.
