Facebook Application Authorization in Avid Media Hub

This tutorial shows how to authorize Avid Media Hub to publish and receive messages
from Facebook

1. If Facebook Account on which Avid Media Hub is going to post messages already
exists, go to pt. 3

2. Create Facebook account


a. Go to http://facebook.com website using WebBrowser and fill data in the ‘Sign
Up’ area
b. Fill necessary user information

c. Confirm new account by clicking received link on e-mail account


3. If Facebook application which is going to be used by Avid Media Hub on Facebook
already exists, and has necessary credentials, go to pt. 5

4. Create Facebook Application


a. If account is not registered as Facebook Developer yet, go to
http://developers.facebook.com/apps using WebBrowser and click [Register
Now], reenter password and accept Facebook Platform Policy. Registration may
require providing and confirming phone number
b. Select ‘Apps’ menu and use ‘Create a New App’ option

c. In ‘Crate a New App’ dialog enter name of the application and select right
Category. Press [Create App] and follow Security Check

d. Go to the ‘Settings’ tab, press ‘Add Platform’ select ‘Website’ and type site url (it
has to be http://www.avid.com/SMH/index.html). In App Domains field type
‘avid.com’ (other string than this is not allowed), then press ‘Save Changes’
button.
e. Go to the ‘Advanced’ options and make sure, ‘Native or desktop?’ app option is
changed to ‘Yes’ (Desktop App)
f. Make your App Public

5. In Avid Media Hub create new Profile, assign Facebook driver, press [Authorize…]
button, enter corresponding ‘App ID’ and App Secret values from Facebook
Application ‘Dashboard’ together with User and Password (to see App Secret Key
press [Show])
6. Press OK and authorize application in Avid Media Hub, follow application
credentials acceptance (usually Public). Some steps may not be necessary if given
profile has been authorized before.
7. Assign new Facebook profile to the publishFacebookMessage event, type
message you want to check and press [Test] button in the Events window, to post
message on Facebook Wall
