Weird Science Facts You May Not Know

Up until the 1960's, doctors determined if a woman was

pregnant by injecting her urine into a female frog. If the
frog laid eggs within a day (due to the hormones in the
pregnant woman's urine), it was considered positive.
Before frogs, rabbits or mice were used, but these had to
be killed and dissected in order to tell if the hormones had
any effect on the animal.

Tears you cry when you're upset actually contain a

hormone that's a natural painkiller. Your body releases this
hormone (called leucine enkephalin) when you're under
stress. So if you ever feel like you need to just sit and have a
good cry, your body is just trying to comfort itself.

The smell that grass gives off when it's cut is actually a
distress signal. You're basically smelling the grass
screaming in pain. Don't tell social media, or we'll have
a hashtag about it....

Despite being taught in school we have five senses - sight, touch,

smell, taste, and sound - humans really have over 20. For
example, Proprioception is the ability to tell where your body
parts are in relation to other body parts, even when you can't
see them, and Equilibrioception is basically your sense of
balance, which allows you to stay upright when doing important
things like walking.
Diamonds are definitely the Milky Way galaxy’s
best friends. Studies have examined the potential
that Neptune, Uranus, Jupiter, and Saturn have to
produce diamonds. The atmospheres in all four
planets have such extreme pressure that they can
crystalize carbon atoms and turn them into
diamonds. Scientists were able to create the
correct conditions in a lab to prove this occurs on
Neptune and Uranus. Separately, a different
group of researchers speculates that it may rain as
much as 2.2 million pounds of diamonds on parts
of Saturn every year.

'Foetus in foetu' is a rare abnormality that refers to the phenomenon of a fetus getting
trapped inside a twin's body. The fetus continues to grow like a parasite inside a person's
body, leeching the person's blood supply. It gradually grows so large that it begins to
harm the host's body, after which it has to be surgically removed.

Before cremation, Einstein's brain was removed with the view of discovering the secret of
his exceptional intelligence. It was later found that his brain contained a greater number
of glial cells, which are responsible for the synthesis of information. It was also discovered
that Einstein had a dense brain and a relatively large parietal lobe, which is associated
with mathematical skills.
