Washington, DC 20500 Dear President Trump: ‘As you may know, throughout most of the month of February, the Commonwealth of Kentucky has experienced a prolonged period of severe weather. Heavy rainfall, high winds, widespread flooding and other storm-related hazards have threatened—and will continue to threaten—lives and property throughout the Commonwealth. At this time, thirty-six counties and eleven cities in Kentucky have declared emergencies at the local level. Accordingly, on February 25, 2019, Kentucky Govemor Matt Bevin declared a statewide emergency for purposes of mobilizing state response and recovery resources. Emergency managers and other state officials have indicated that these events could surpass the threshold for federal disaster assistance in accordance with the provisions of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. Should this prove to be the case, I respectfully urge you to promptly consider any request for aid made by Governor Bevin, and I thank you in advance for your attention to this matter. If 1 can be of assistance, or if you need any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact my office. Sincerely, Rand) Gaw/f Rand Paul, M.D. United States Senator
