Stage 2 – Evidence

Performance Task(s)
Be sure to indicate:
Quia
Goal: Your goal is to be able to navigate through Quia and know how to
perform the basic functions to use in your classroom.
Role: You are a student.
Audience: The target audience is the students that you teach.
Situation: You want to bring a new energy into your class by using a new
technology.
Product Performance and Purpose: You will set up a class and add an
image to your class page. You will learn how to create quizzes and
activities and also how to use the ones that have already been created by
others.

Stage 3 – Learning Plan


1. Instructor will introduce herself and pass out the brochures.
2. Instructor will give a brief description of what Quia is and how it
makes a teacher’s life much easier by showing the Prezi.
3. The instructor will pass out the handout to help with the following
tasks.
4. Instructor will go over how to create a class, create quizzes and
activities, and how to use the ones that are already created.
5. Instructor will also go over how to add a picture to your profile .
6. As the instructor is going over steps 3 and 4, the teachers will be
setting up their own classes on their computers. The instructor will
be monitoring and helping with any problems or questions.
7. The instructor will hand out surveys to be completed by the
participants.

Adding a Picture to Your Profile Page


1. On the Profile page, click ‘Edit Photo’ on the right hand side of the page.
2. Click ‘Browse’
3. Find the picture that you want
4. Click ‘open’
5. Click ‘upload’- It may take a minute or two for the picture to upload.
6. Crop the picture by sliding the highlighted box over the portion of the
photo that you want to be seen.
7. Click ‘Crop image’

Setting up a Class
1. Click the ‘Classes’ link
2. Click ‘Create a New Class’
3. Instructor Enroll is preferred because of students forgetting their
passwords
4. Click ‘SUBMIT’
5. Enter your class information
6. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click ‘save changes’
To set up a Roster
1. On the Classes page, click ‘CREATE a ROSTER NOW’
2. Choose the class you wish to work with from the drop menu
3. Add last and first names. (It does not matter if they are in alphabetical
order. Once
you save, it will alphabetize for you.) - The computer will give you the ID
(If you have more than 10 students, click ‘Add More Rows’. It will add in
multiples of
10.)

~Notice that the program will email you a list of all students and their
passwords and, it will email each student his or her username and password
also:

4. When done, click ‘SAVE CHANGES’.

5. If you want to work more on your roster, click ‘CONTINUE’


Making a quiz or activity
1. Go to left hand column at top of page and click ‘Activities’
2. Choose from drop menu the type of activity you would like.
Notice under your choice, you may also choose from activities others
have already made.
To choose one that has already been made by someone else:
1. Enter a search or scroll down and click on the subject matter of choice.
2. When the list of ready made activities appears, find one of interest
3. Click the title link on the left to view and *play it.
4. Click the light green box on the right to add it to your account.

*Note: When you are playing the activity, you have a “Tool” box on the
upper right. It allows you to do several things, one of which is to “Copy it to
My account”. After you Copy it to your account, the following message will
appear:
“This activity has been copied to your account. You'll see it the next time you
go to your Activities page.

If you'd like to go ahead and assign it to your classes, choose the classes
below. Otherwise, press "Continue" to return to the page you were just on.
Assign this activity to the following classes:”

Note: You may copy any number of activities to your account. They sit in
your ‘Activities’ folder until you are ready to assign them to a class.

To Add Assignments
1. On the Classes page, click ‘EDIT CLASS’
2. Choose your class from drop menu.
3. Scroll down to ‘Assign a Quiz, activity, or survey – about midway down
and on the
right.
4. Click the link.
5. From the drop down menu, choose the activity that you have just added
and click ‘Assign to class’. You will have to do this for each activity.

To Create Your Own Activity


1. Click the Activities link
2. Choose from the drop down the type of Activity
3. Click ‘Go’
4. Enter Terms – Choose Activity Type –
Note: Be sure to look at the Option Codes – I especially like option ‘NQ’ –
number of question and ‘SF’ – Small Flashcards
5. Click ‘DONE’.
6. Play your game!
Now, Edit it if needed (go to ‘Activities’ – choose Edit beside the Activity of
Choice

To Create a Quiz
1. Click ‘Quizzes’ link on left hand column
2. Click ‘Create New Quiz’
3. Title it and give instructions
4. On the yellow bar choose what type questions you want and how many
of that type you want. When you finish these questions, it will ask you what
new type of question you want to use and how many. You may continue
adding as many types and as many questions as you like.
Note: Left column, beside questions, allows you to
 Delete the questions
 Rearrange your questions.
 Assign Point Values
• Beneath the multiple choice answer choices there is an option to randomize
each set of answers.
• Images may be added as answer choices.
5. Adjust the settings to your preference in Section 3 after you have entered
all of your questions and answers.
6.You may choose to preview your quiz or click ‘Done’.
7. The Login will be changed to ‘Login Required’. You may click ‘Login Not
Required’ if you want anyone to be able to access the quiz. On this screen,
you can also assign your quiz or adjust the settings.

When a Student Logs In


When a student, who is on your roster, signs in, he/she will go straight to
your name and a link to his/her class. From there, he/she may click on the
link and see what you have provided.

To Add a File from your Computer


1. Click ‘Files” on left hand column
2. Click ‘Upload’
3. Browse and once you’ve chosen your file, you may rename it as desired
for your class.
4. Click ‘OK’
5. Then, go to the class page where you want it to appear
6. Under ‘Class Message’ box, there is a small drop down which defaults to
‘Insert’.
7.Click on drop down arrow
8. Choose ‘File’
9. Click ‘Browse’
10. Click file you need to browse
11. Click the radio button of desired file
12. Click ‘OK’

Go to your class page and ‘View’ and enjoy knowing you have added a study
guide, etc.
