Why I Want to Be a Teacher

Hugs, hugs, hugs, and more hugs. The second I step into an elementary school

classroom, I am swarmed by children showering me in their love. There is no better

feeling in the world. These kids are pure, innocent, loving, and can make any bad day

turn into a bad day in a split second.

People always say, “Don’t teach, you won’t make any money,” or “You’re too

smart to just be an elementary school teacher.” While these words have somewhat of a

sting to the ear, I put them past me. I want to be a teacher not for the money, but for

the rewarding feeling of knowing I have impacted a child. I never want to take a job for

the money, but because I wake up excited to go to work everyday. A job should be

enjoyable and something that one loves doing. I think teaching is a perfect example of

the phrase, “Do what you love, love what you do,” for me.

I want to be a teacher to educate and support the future of our world. I have

always been a natural born leader, and who better to lead than a group of young

students. I am a strong believer in the fact that young children need someone to show

them that they are cared for and loved at a young age. Not every student gets this from

their parents, and a teacher is a great alternative. Students make me happy and

inspired and I would hope I could do the same for them.

I want to be a teacher to develop relationships with students. A student will not

remember anything they learn content wise years down the road, but they will

remember what type of a person their teacher was. I want to be the teacher that
students always remember. Teaching is a profession that is underappreciated, but I

can’t think of a different career I would enjoy more.
