Title SHEET METAL
Objective To produce user-friendly product by using sheet metal working
process

Report Summary
Inroduction 2 sheets of drawing is given and needed to be drawn on metal plate. The
metal is then be cut and bend to produce the product. The process is called
sheet metal.

From what we have learnt, sheet metal process consist of 4 phases which
are:-
Method 1.Measuring and design
learned 2.Cutting process
/Procedure
3.Forming
4.Assembly

Example tools that are used in this process are:-

L-squared, protector, ruler steel, hammer, G-clamp, scrabber, rubber mallet,

aviation snip and centre punch

Phase 1: Measuring and design.

1. The drawing given as in the figure 2 and 3 are well understood.

thickness of 1.5mm are used to produce an inverted bonsai vase.
3. The plates are scratched and marked exactly like in the picture
using scribber, protector, ruler and L-squared.

Phases 2: Cutting process

1. The aluminium plates that have been scratched are then being cut
using aviation snip and shear metal.

the plates

2. After cut, every edges of the cut side of the plate is scraped with
chisels.

3. Mark the cut plate using a center punch and hammer referring to
the picture in figure 3 and 4 in phase 1.
4. The plates that have been marked using center punch and hammer
are then being drilled.

Phase 3: Forming

1. The aluminium plates are bend using a bending machine with a

correct technique that has been taught.

Bending process
2. Each edges that are being flapped are then being knocked using
a plastic mallet on the anvil.

3. They are then being put back in bending machine for bending to
shape it.
4. The base part is being clamped using g-clamp to knock the edges
to form the shape.

5. The vase part is being drilled based on the mark.

6. The holes are being riveted.

Phase 4: Assembly

1. The plates are formed like in the picture below.

2. Both parts are being paired up as below.

Inverted bonsai vase is formed through 4 phases which are

measuring and design, cutting process, forming, and assembly.

INVERTED BONSAI VASE

1. After finishing this session, we have learned and completed the

production of inverted bonsai vase by using 4 phases which are :-
Conclusion  Measuring and design
 Cutting the metal sheet
 Forming
 Assembly
2. In this session we also learned on how to use different tools in
making the sheet metal product.

Recomendation/ 1. In this session the assistant engineer should provide more choice
next planning of the design for the student so the student can choose the designs
that they like.
2. The tools in the workshop need to be clean at least once a month
by the assistant engineer and the student so that the tools is not to
greasy.
