• The four police officers were slain as they sat in a coffee shop in Parkland which is located 40 miles south of Seattle. • Marked police cars were parked outside the coffee shop, indicating that the gunman was targeting law enforcement officers. • Two coffee shop employees and a few customers were in the shop at the time, but none were wounded. • Nearby McChord Air Force Base was put on alert. • The suspect was described as a „scruffy‟ black male, approximately 5‟7‟‟ to 5‟10‟‟ tall and in his 20‟s or 30s. He was wearing a gray jacket over a hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Implications for New York
• Police Officers and military personnel are increasingly becoming targets of alienated „lone wolves‟ and those with links to foreign militants. • Luqman Ameen Abdullah, who was killed in a shoot out with the FBI in Detroit in October of this year, was quoted as advising his followers,"Do not carry a pistol if you're going to give it up to police. You give them a bullet!" • Abdullah was a disciple of Jamil Abdullah al-Amin (a.k.a. H. Rap Brown) who is serving a life sentence for shooting two police officers in Georgia in 2000. • In July Daniel Patrick Boyd was arrested in North Carolina and was charged with plotting to attack the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Va. He was linked to the Afghani Hezb e-Islami terrorist group. • These attacks and plots follow patterns witnessed recently overseas, specifically Pakistan where terrorists attacked a police academy, the Federal Investigative Agency, and a police commando unit on the same day in midOctober.
