Lights.

1. Bedroom 2 - Door opening side is correct? I think the other way would be more convenient.
a. I assume the unusual door opening side for Bedroom 2 is due to the storage space
(sliding door) on the actual wall side. Might need to leave as is. Thanks for noting it
2. Bedroom 1,2,3 Closets - do You need extra light in the closet?
a. Yes
3. Bathrooms - need extra light above/next to mirror?
a. LED mirrors are the preferred option (or at least an LED light over the mirror)
4. Living and Kitchen/dining - not sure where to put light switches. Any suggestions?
a. Kitchen Wall Next to exit door (4.a in picture)
b. Can we add more lights (or any specific light designed to make the placer brighter) in
living/kitchen area?
c. Can you please add 3 hanging pendant lights over kitchen island and switch for
those
5. Hallway - That's a dilemma with the light switches. I have few different possible suggestions
for this, maybe You'll have some input. Here's what I offer:
a. - 1) put 1 switch at the beginning (entering from kitchen) and 1 switch near
bedroom 1 doors. Both switches control all the lights in the hallway. Not sure if
that's convenient if You're going to/from other bedrooms.
b. - 2) put 1 switch at the beginning (entering from kitchen) and 1 switch at each of the
bedroom doors (in total 5 switches), all controlling all the lights in the hallway.
Maybe too much?
c. - 3) do option 1) + mount extra lights on the walls, 0,3 m. height with motion
detectors. I think those are called stair lights. usually used to light up the stairs.
Great for when you just need to pass it, they light up for 5 seconds or so. Whenever
more light is needed, that's where the option 1) comes.
i. Option 3 sounds good
6. Carport - need lights? if so can you point where? and where to put the switch? or maybe one
w/ motion detector + photo detector (stays off during day, turns on at night when motion is
detected)
a. We will leave carport as a “Veranda” for now but would enclose and convert it to a
second living room or internal garage in the future. Can you please add some ceiling
lights and if possible ability to extend power sockets, lights and switches as much as
possible to make things easier in future while converting it.
b. Lights with motion detector + photo detector are needed. A light switch on the
external and one inside next to storage will be good. Highlighted in 6.b.1 and 6.b.2
in attached picture
7. Lights outside of the house? maybe on the house outer walls? above the main entry door
(maybe that one with a motion detector + photo detector, so it lights up only when it's dark
and when it captures movement. Will stay off during day.)?
a. Yes, lights are needed on each side of external walls and above main entry door.
Would be good to have them all with motion detector + photo detector. We are
planning a deck on the back side as highlighted in the attached picture (7.a). Not
sure if we need to plan for any spotlights in the deck now or if it would be easier to
just stick to the lights on external walls to provide lighting on the deck area.
8. Also I need some plan of the bedroom layouts. I have added one hand drawn picture, where
I show a double bed, with counters on the sides. Then mount light switches next to counters
to turn off the main room light. Also if needed add another switch to light up local (above
your head) lights. Or those local lights can be put on the counter, pluggable into socket.
a. Yes, it will be a twin bed (King size) in Bedroom 1. Light switches next to counters are
good. We would like to place local lights on counter which can be plugged in to
sockets. Also, can we get a light with separate control over headside on bed, in the
ceiling something which could be used as a reading light? optional
b. Optional: I am unsure but if you are aware of any particular lights which could be
used during night or sleep time. If there are, good to have one planned in Bedroom
1 and Bedroom 3.

Power.

9. What's the total power You have for this house? how thick is the main cable? Is it 3 phase?
Do You know how big is the main breaker?
a. I do not have an idea about these. Might need to check with any power company. Is
this required currently or is it fine if I come back once I have some details from
someone who knows it? I guess usually the max capacity for single phase is 68A in
NZ
10. Where do we put the main distribution panel?
a. The meter box is placed outside next to fridge by the designer. Is it the same box you
are referring to for a power distribution panel? (10.a in picture)
11. Will there be electric heaters in bathrooms? If so a socket is needed. Or anywhere else
besides the bathrooms?
a. If this is water heating that you are referring to, we do not have electric heating. It
will be gas heating and the unit is being placed next to the kitchen wall (11.a in
picture). We need to plan for power for this unit.
12. Ventilation in bathrooms? if You put normal fans, maybe connect them together with lights?
or a separate switch next to the lights?
a. Prefer separate switches for extraction fans and an overrun timer for the fans will be
good.
13. Do You plan to have an office? A computer room? (desktop I mean)
a. I will be placing my computer desk either in Bedroom 2 or Bedroom 4. Might need to
plan for the LAN ports and power in both
14. Spots for TV? in the living room and bedrooms? mark if possible please.
a. Wall next to entrance in Living room (14.a in picture). A socket on the wall between
windows in living room (14.b) might be good if TV position is changed in future.
b. Option for mounting a TV in Bedroom 1 and Bedroom 4
15. Do You need 3-phase power sockets? (400V) If so specify where.
a. Again, I am unsure of this. I guess all domestic appliances in NZ are designed to run
on single phase. I might need to find and confirm this with someone qualified
16. Oven, Stove electric? Maybe 3-phase?
a. Same as above
17. Sockets in the kitchen I will re-do tomorrow together with the kitchen plan. For now I just
plan several sockets for the appliances, one for the ventilation above the stove (I believe it
will be mounted?), one for fridge.
a. Kitchen appliances needing power – wall oven, integrated rangehood (extractor) or
wall mount going in place of the middle top cupboard, electric cooktop and gas
cooktop (both), dishwasher in the kitchen island, waste disposal unit under the sink
18. In the living room maybe You're planning to put a sofa where I marked? If so maybe it would
be a good idea to put 2 sockets next to it. By that kitchen island-counter (sorry I forgot how
it's called)
a. We will be placing sofa next to wall and dining table next to the door in living room
(to save space as it is a smaller living room). Need sockets on both sides of the
kitchen island which should be fine (18.a.1 and 18.a.2 in picture). Let me know if you
see any issues with these
19. Sockets in the living room I am not sure of. If You have suggestions, please let me know.
a. Some on the TV wall next to entrance (14.a), some of the wall between windows,
some on the next to kitchen island
20. I put a socket in the bathrooms next to a mirror. One should be enough? For hair dryer,
shaver etc.
a. Yeah, I think one should be fine
21. How about sockets in the hallway? maybe put one or two on some wall. Could be useful
when vacuuming?
a. Yes, need in the hall way, prefer 3
22. Laundry - 2 sockets. Washer and dryer. Correct if I'm wrong.
a. Yes, and one more socket for iron box and misc. use (on wall next to door inside?)
23. For the bedrooms.. that's kind of a shot in the dark. As I do not know the layout I don't really
know where to put the sockets.
a. TVs in Bedroom 1 and 4 other than living area. All bedroom sockets look fine other
than bedroom 3. Can you move bedroom 3 sockets – to the wall next to door (where
light switch is) and the other on opposite side (23.a.1 and 23.a.2)
24. Also how low are the windows? would it be ok to put a socket underneath? I put one in
bedroom 3, it might need to be moved.
a. The total wall height is 2.4m. The window height in bedroom 3 is 1.2m. Can we plan
sockets approx. as in above answer for question 23.
25. Any extra appliances? Like aircon, boiler, HVAC system, some kind of heating solution that
needs electricity, etc. I would need to know the place where to leave cable/socket and the
power of that appliance.
a. Heat pumps – one in living/kitchen (approx. 6kw), one in bedroom 1 ( a split system
or a heat transfer system to bedroom 3). Sockets/cable to setup a heatpump in each
room as it might be good to have the option available.
b. Sockets in ceiling for a ventilation system (anything else required for a ventilation
system?)
26. Electric gates in the yard?
a. No
27. I kind of miss a boiler room?
a. Gas heating. No hot water cylinders

Network / Automation

No drawing yet.
28. What kind of internet can You expect? Fiber optics, wireless, simple network CAT cable?
a. The home need to be fibre ready (will be rolled out in 2021 in the area). For now, I
will be connecting to ADSL2+ or VDSL or Wifi.
b. I am planning to wire the home for future automation and need to setup a
distribution box and then run to telecom outlets in different rooms
29. Would need to know where to put distribution panel for network. That's why I was asking
about office / computer room. Maybe put the incoming line there and route everything else
from there?
a. How about using the distribution panel space you marked for electricity? There is a
requirement that the external termination point (ETP) need to be outside (min 30
cm from ground) and close to the distribution panel.
30. For network I plan to put 3 access points for wi-fi (living room, bedroom 1 and bedroom 4.
Should cover most area).
a. Yes, sounds good. Might be good to move wifi point from Bedroom 1 to Bedroom 3
if that provides coverage over to deck area
31. how about television? is it iptv? I was asking about TV's because I plan to put a socket next
to a TV. To connect TV and use smart TV functions. Need to know where they will be.
a. Not planning for IPTV now. If we do have, probably we will connect it to the one in
living area and can we connect the network to other two TV points planned in
Bedroom 1 and Bedroom 4?
32. If You plan to put some kind of monitoring (IP cameras) let me know, I'll need to do some
thinking. Even if You do it later, would be better to lay down the cables now.
a. Yes, we need to place cameras
33. Some kind of smart doorbell? with video/microphone? not sure if that's needed.
a. Yes, video doorbell with microphone
34. Any other kind of smart home automation?
35. Maybe electrical thermostats to set the temperature at the given room? Not sure what's
Your heating solution.
a. We are looking at installing 2 heat pumps as mentioned previously (6kw, 3kw)
36. Electrical blindfolds on windows?
a. Motorised curtain track for door in living room
37. Electrical gates in the yard?
a. No

OTHERS

38. Sewer pump – We need to place a pump to get sewer pumped to the mains on street. I am
not sure if it is submersible or external. The sewer tank (marked on the house design placed
on section) is in the back yard towards kitchen side.
39. Water pump (from rain water tank) – I might add a rain water collection tank on the right-
side corner of house (bedroom 1 corner, backwards). Would be good if we can plan for a
motor to connect to the tank which will be used to pump water (to make future proof)
40. Landscape lights – I do not have a landscape design at the moment but do you think we can
add anything extra on the external side which would make it easier to connect any
landscape lights ?
41. Shed – There is a shed as you can see in the land and house plan that I shared. Do you think
it would be easier to plan power connection at shed (a couple of sockets and two lights ??).
The sockets might help charge an electric car (if I buy one 😊)
