Traditional Teaching is one of the teaching method that is still adhered in some

schools. It includes the chalk and the talk teaching style and a teacher-centric classroom.

Teachers are more likely to be in mode as knowledge dispensers rather than facilitators.

Teachers are the only source of knowledge and there is a lacking on expanding the way

of dissiminating information. This teaching method is one of the possible factors why

most of their senior high school students become tired and inactive in class. This causes

their academic performance to drop.

Morong National High School is then central secondary school in Morong, RIzal. It

offers education for the majority of the students in Morong in other nearby towns. The

school as institute so that some teaching style can be done in a modern day.

Due to the advancement of technology, there are so many things that had changed

as well as the manner of disseminating information most of the students have cellular

phones and a lot of things become modernalized. This modernization caused great

impact on the education. Some Senior High School students become tired and inactive

on the traditional way of teaching casing their academic performance to drop.

DepEd Order No.78, S.2010 or the “GUIDELINES ON THE IMPLEMENTATION

OF THE DEPED COMPUTERIZATION PROGRAM (DCP)” States that

“With the legal mandate of promoting the right of all citizens to take
appropriate steps in making education accessible to all, the Department of
Education (DepEd) is geared towards the transformation of education
through the DepEd Computerization Program (DCP)”.
The objectives of the DepEd Computerization Program are as follows:

a. Provide computer laboratory packages to secondary schools;

b. Provide e-classroom to elementary schools;

c. Provide laptop units to mobile teachers;

d. Raise the ICT literacy of learners, pupils, students, teachers and school heads;

and

e. Reduce the computer backlog in public schools.

Modern society demands high quality teaching and learning from teachers.

Teachers have to possess a great deal of knowledge and skills with regards to teaching

and use teaching strategies that is appropriate to the current situation of the people and

society in order to meet those demands and standards of quality education. And based

on the experience of the researchers, using the modern teaching approach greatly

contribute on the overall performance of the students in class. Teachers provided with

proper training up-to-date information and new research on classroom management, on

merging technology tools for the classroom, new curriculum resources, and more could

become a successful factor to their school. (Darling Hammond et al. 2017; Borko 2004)

Based on the scenario presented above, the researchers aims to determine the

effectiveness of the modern teaching style such as using the Google Classroom as a tool

for classroom activities of Grade 11-STEM students of Morong National High School.

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using Google Classroom as a tool

of Classroom Activities among Grade 11-STEM Students of Morong National High

School in S.Y. 2018-2019


Specifically, the study aims to answer the following questions:

1. How traditional teaching style contributes to the low academic performance of Grade

11 students of Morong National High School?

2. What are the significant effects of using Google Classroom as a tool for effective

teaching?

3. How Google Classroom helps the students to improve their academic performance?

4. What are the possible recommendations on the use of Google Classroom in teaching?
