LABORATORY SESSION # 11

Frequency Response
11.1 EQUIPMENT

PC
MATLAB

11.2 PRE-LAB
Chapter no.10 of the text book ‘Norman S Nise ‘.
Student should be familiar with the usage of MATLAB
11.3 PROCEDURE
1. Open matlab and create .m file
2. Now write the code for Nyquist plot

11.4 OBSERVATION AND RESULTS

Lab Task:

1. Sketch the Nyquist diagram for a unity negative feedback system with a forward transfer
function of . From your Nyquist plot, determine the range of gain, K,
for stability.
2. Find the phase margins required for second-order closed-loop step responses with the
following percent overshoots: 5%, 10%, 20% and 30%.
11.5 LEARNING OUTCOMES

What do you learn from this lab?

We learnt to find frequency response using Nyquist plot

11.6 EXERCISE QUESTIONS

1. Design system shown in Fig. 11.3.

Figure: 11.3 Negative feedback system.

a) Plot the Nyquist diagram.

b) Use your Nyquist diagram to find the range of gain, K, for stability.
c) Find the gain margin and the 180° frequency for the problem, if K = 100.
