Fargo – The Diocese of Fargo has placed Father Wenceslaus Katanga, Pastor of St. Patrick’s Catholic
Church in Wishek, St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Zeeland, and St. David’s Catholic Church in
Ashley on administrative leave from his priestly duties pending the outcome of an investigation into his
alleged conduct at a parish to which he was previously assigned.

In a statement, Bishop John Folda of the Diocese of Fargo told parishioners of the three parishes: “Late
Thursday we were informed by the Fargo Police Department of concerns regarding Father Katanga’s
interaction with a youth while ministering at Sts. Anne and Joachim Catholic Church in Fargo. At this
time no charges have been filed. The Diocese of Fargo is cooperating fully with law enforcement in this
matter, and we take any such allegations very seriously. I have placed Father Katanga on administrative
leave and have removed him from his priestly duties pending a complete investigation of this
matter. Father Katanga will not be residing at any parish during the period of this investigation.”

“I want to assure you that the safety of our children and families is—and will remain – a priority for our
Church. I ask you to keep in your prayers our Church and everyone who may be affected by this

If any parishioners have specific information or concerns regarding Father Katanga’s interactions with
others, we ask that they contact Monsignor Goering at the Diocese of Fargo (701-356-7945) or

Media should contact Paul Braun, Director of Communications, at, or by

phone at 806-678-4894.
