Rules of neutrality

1. To abstain from taking part in the hostilities by: 1. Sending of troops 2. Official grant of loans 3. Carriage of contraband
Contraband – goods with neutral property may be seized because they are useful for war and are bounf for a hostile
destination
Doctine of ultimate consumption – goods intended for civilian use may be seized on the way
Doctrine of infection – innocent goods shipped with contraband
Doctrine of continuous voyage- goods reloaded at intermediate port or another vessel
Unneutral service - acts of a more hostile character than carriage of contraband or blockade
2. To prevent its territory and other resources from being used in the conduct of hostilities
3. To acquiesce to certain restrictions and limitations
Blockade – to be valid it must be binding, effective
Visit and search – prize (vessels captured for engaging in hostile activities)
