3 Precast reinforced concrete box culverts shall conform to ASTM C 1433 and the details 4 shown in the Plans. 5 6 Precast reinforced concrete attachments to the box culverts, such as headwalls and 7 baffles, shall be designed in accordance with the AASHTO Standard Specifications for 8 Highway Bridges, 17th Edition – 2002, Chapters 6 and 8, load factor design method. 9 The design vehicular live load shall be HS-20. 10 11 Concrete for all precast reinforced concrete box culvert elements shall attain a minimum 12 28 day compressive strength of 4,000 psi. Concrete cover from the face of any 13 concrete surface to the face of any steel reinforcement shall be 1 inch minimum. 14 15 The Contractor shall submit six sets of shop drawings, with two sets of supporting 16 design calculations for all precast reinforced concrete attachments to the box culverts, 17 to the Engineer in accordance with Sections 6-01.9 and 6-02.3(28)A. In addition to 18 items 1 through 6 under the Section 6-02.3(28)A requirements for shop drawing content, 19 the following shop drawing details shall also be submitted: 20 21 1. Erection and backfill procedure. 22 23 2. Complete, site specific, itemized bar list for all reinforcing steel. 24 25 The Contractor shall erect and backfill precast reinforced concrete box culverts, with 26 associated precast reinforced concrete attachments, in accordance with the erection 27 sequence specified in the shop drawings as approved by the Engineer.
