NAME: ________________________ Mitosis Activity

Goal: The goal of this activity is to deepen your knowledge

and understanding of cellular division
Material: You will need the following:
ü Clay
ü Your class notes on Mitosis
ü White paper to do your work on
ü A camera (cell phone!)
ü A computer

Procedure:
1. In groups of 2-3 use clay of different colours to create your model. Use the different colours to
emphasize the different key structures.
2. Create a model of each stage of cellular division starting with Interphase.
3. While you are creating each phase, make sure to include the following parts: Nucleus, DNA (in
interphase), centrioles, chromosomes, spindle fibres, and nucleus.
Identify these parts in your model.
4. Make sure to represent every single phase of mitosis. Once you have finished creating a phase,
place it on the white paper and take a photo. Use the same clay for the next phase.
5. Repeat until you have completed all the phases.
6. Once all the phases are created, each group member will INDIVIDUALLY upload the photos
into a Word document. (There should be a total of 5 photos)
7. Under (or beside) each phase/image in your document, describe in point form what is happening
in that phase
8. Pick one phase to draw out (either by hand or on the computer) and indicate all the parts that
were mentioned in step 3.
9. Email in your completed work or hand in a physical copy by _________________.
