Introduction
Each leader has different style of leadership. Some styles are good for citizens and country development
while some are detrimental to principles of humanity. In this assigned two leaders are discussed. Erdogan
is perceived as a good leader who has done well to his country and humanity in general on the other hand
his neighbor Bashar Al Assad is a brutal dictator who is determined to stay in power by all means.

Leadership traits of Erdogan


Recep Tayyip Erdogan is one of prominent and enigmatic modern day leader in Turkey and the World in
general. He was born in the year 1954 and was elected to presidency in 2014 on AKP ticket. He is the
most powerful leader in turkey’s modern day history. His country has been dominating in the world
headlines as a president. One could describe him;

 Charismatic leader, he has managed to consolidate the Turkish society behind him then elected
as Prime Minister Right from prison. In 2014 he was elected as the first president bringing in
political stability in turkey. In his tenure there has been a relatively high political stability
although his critics
 Strong and courageous leader, he has intensified the fight the PKK separatists and extending
his fight into Syria. His country shot down a Russian Jet a country feared by many.
 Unity symbol-modern day turkey has seen a strong religious unity than ever before because
Erdagon policies. He once abandoned his hardline religious stands to accommodate the views of
all Turks.
 Humanistic leader, civil unrest in Syria has created a flow of millions of refugees to Turkey. His
government has provided humanitarian support to this refugees. In the reign of Erdagon,
countries like Somalia have greatly benefited from the ambassadorial role in calling out the
country to be heard and helped. The foreign policies of Edagon has enabled him to bridge the
diplomatic ties that was cut previously. There have been diplomatic efforts to reach Israel and
Iran.

Leadership traits of Assad


Bashar al-Assad is one of the worst leaders of the century, Syria is one the failed state. He is the son of
Hafez-el Assad and came into power in year 2000. A revolution in the year 2011 has left the country in
the brink of collapsing. He can be described as follows:

 Power greed leader, he has been in power since his brother’s death, he is not ready to relinquish
power at all cost.
 Corrupt and a leader promoting nepotism, up to his fall, his close family members controlled
most infrastructure. A good example is telecommunication sector that was mainly owned and
controlled by his cousin.
 Brutal dictator, he used a chemical gas to attack innocent civilians he used crude means to
suppress rebellions against his regime.

Conclusion
While Erdogan is perceived as a good leader, he too has his dark side. Both have been democratically
elected in their respective countries, but the situation in Syria clearly indicates a leadership that cares less
for majority of its citizens. Syria is in economic mess while turkey economy is doing relatively well.
