1.0 INTRODUCTION WORD ACADEMIC ASSIGNMENT

1.1 Operating system

An operating system (OS) is the core software that allows a computer to run as an useful device.
Operating system, it manages the hardware, the user interface and all other software running on the
computer (MICROSOFT, 2018).

Without an operating system, a computer is just a collection of components heating up the room as no-
one would be able to make any practical use of the machine.

2.1 History of Microsoft window

Windows is Microsoft’s flagship Os, the de facto standard for home and business computers.

Microsoft Windows was announced by Bill Gates on November 10, 1983.

Microsoft introduced Windows as graphical user interface for MS-DOS, which had been introduced a
couple of years earlier.

In the 1990s, the product line evolved from an operating environment into a fully complete, modern
operating system over two lines of development, each with their own separate codebase (Auslander,
1981)
